no 12 yet, but they are certainly keeping
this version maintained....that's a good thing...

I was in a music store yesterday and asked them what was going to be new in version 12. All I got was a chuckle and the reply "the payment method".

Yeah, it looks that way.  But there are some users that are excited about a rumor of "Track Freeze" coming.  Good grief, excitement over one little improvement?

Anyway, I'm standing pat at PT11 until I see a benefit to upgrading.

Yeah, I know the first year is free for me...but, hmmm....do
I want to ruin a good thing.....that's the dilemma...

So far, PT11 is the stablest version I've ever used.  The others
were minor hiccups, but I haven't had a problem with 11 in
Win 8.1.  I'm quite happy with it!

Track freeze is a lot less relevant now that we have faster than real time bounce. It also depends on the implementation of the idea. In Sonar, it's extremely well thought and very useful.

In Logic, I never use it because you can't do a thing with a frozen track - everything is locked except volume and pan. You can't copy a frozen clip or add effects or whatever. On the other hand, "Bounce in Place" works just as quick and I've come to prefer it.

I'm curious to see how AVID will implement the concept.

Do you guys that are using PT11 miss any of the PTHD only features.

I've got PTHD9. There is no way to upgrade to PT11. I have to go to HD which at $599 is quite a bit. I can buy PT11 outright with a bit of hardware for substantially less hence the question above.

I've never had the HD features to miss since I got on the band wagon with PT 11 native. I was waiting till PT was 64 bit before I even looked at it and it took two tries before I started liking it.

The biggest thing I miss is the automatic muting of audio tracks when recording. This has to be an intentional dumbing down of the native versions in order to maintain the need for their hardware products. Luckily 3rd party developers stepped in with support software like AuotMute so I can record and monitor through my sound card's outputs.

I'd like to sit down with someone who has worked with VCAs in that environment so that they could show me what I'm missing in that regard. I've never knew that I was being held back in that regard.

Thanks for your input Dave
I find PT to be needlessly complex. Coming from Sonar it seems worlds away. I can understand why there are such in depth education programs for it. Not that it's any more powerful it's just more difficult to use.

I don't find this to be the case.  The workflow is different.  And, if you're coming
from another DAW with "preconceived" notions, then that will certainly make it
more difficult.  All DAW's do the exact same thing.  They just go about it in different
ways with more or less features.

Clear your mind.  Be open to learning new things and all will go smoothly.

We tend to get "stuck" with "only what I know".  You wouldn't "know" unless
you took the time to learn it.  This is why "What I Know" is now easy.
You've already passed the "learning curve" for Sonar, and that makes it
"seem" easier.  Someone coming from Pro Tools to Sonar would probably
feel the same way.  They'd be lost, because they'd expect to just "dive right
in", when that's simply not realistic.

I use 7 different DAW's, and they are all relatively simple to use,
even as "in depth" as they are, because I've taken the TIME to learn them.
It's the "HOW" that makes them different.

Remember...."There is NO SPOON"

Thanks Larry
You've said it much better than me.
My major question at the moment is really whether I should go the HD upgrade route or buy some cheap mBox hardware and get Avid express with upgrade to PT11 for about half the price.

Considering that with Sonar platinum the skies the limit. There are clear differences between PT 11 and PT HD11. Would I miss those extra features? I hope my questions make sense.
