Anyway, I'm standing pat at PT11 until I see a benefit to upgrading.

You sound like so many dudes a few weeks back in the SONAR forum.

Do you guys that are using PT11 miss any of the PTHD only features.

I've got PTHD9. There is no way to upgrade to PT11. I have to go to HD which at $599 is quite a bit. I can buy PT11 outright with a bit of hardware for substantially less hence the question above.

Not that I know. I use Pro Tools as a mixing environment only, though, not to write or track.

Now that Logic has VCA, maybe I'll figure out what the fuss is all about, though as far as I can tell, I could have accomplished pretty much the same things if I had ever needed to w/o actual VCA.

You've said it much better than me.
My major question at the moment is really whether I should go the HD upgrade route or buy some cheap mBox hardware and get Avid express with upgrade to PT11 for about half the price.

Considering that with Sonar platinum the skies the limit. There are clear differences between PT 11 and PT HD11. Would I miss those extra features? I hope my questions make sense.

If you plan on using it as your MAIN MONEY MAKING SOFTWARE...then it would be worth the investment
to go HD, provided you have the hardware to run it...

By the time you buy an M-Box and then upgrade you're going to be real close to the price of the
HD Upgrade.

BTW...the new AAE in Pro Tools, with fast bounce, works very well...I've had exceptional results.

Seeing as that you already have 9 HD, I'd venture to say that the upgrade to 11 HD is the way to go...
You also get more features (one being better metering options) with 11 HD, so that can further help
"justify" the cost and you get the next upgrade free...but that's just my opinion...YMMV

I sure wish I could get the Sonar Interface and workflow, the features of Cubase, and the widespread use
of Pro Tools into ONE SOLID, STABLE DAW!!!  (hey - one can dream )

I'm retired these days but get offered one off jobs (Mixing and Mastering) all the time and now more than ever I could use PT even though I could manage it all in Sonar there is a bit of house keeping to do at times.

My issue is I'm not using any PTHD hardware and don't intend to just as per my signature. PTHD works fine without the Avid goodies. BUT in Australia the $599 translates to $770 whereas a little MBOX with PT11 xpress and upgrade to full PT 11 sets me back about $429. The difference is $350 which is quite a bit at the moment. What do you think

Mudgel,

Yes, that indeed is a quite a steep step up.  And if you don't have the hardware to take advantage
of HD then it's really overkill.

BTW...you can BUY IT OUTRIGHT at AudioDeluxe for $329.00 in cart price, which will save you
another $100+ dolllars...unless you really need the MBox...

Hope that helps...
