Aegean Music has released Spirit Reverb, a new plug-in that features authentic spring reverb and powerful digital reverb effects.
Spirit Reverb's 7 reverb types provide versatile reverb tones and creative effects. Spring reverbs can be adjusted for different numbers of springs and different spring parameters affecting length, tone, and texture. Tube simulation gives a classic vintage spring reverb tone as harmonics and nonlinearities were important factors in vintage spring reverb units.
Beyond vintage reverbs, Spirit Reverb has creative new effects like Cosmic reverb, which has a space like frequency sweep effect. Reverbs have a parametric EQ that can be used either after the effect, or on the wet signal only. Does an excellent job of spring emulation with several spinoffs. If you need a spring unit, this covers about all the grounds as good as emulation gets.
 
Cosmic and digital modes have to pass the bar of the likes of Valhalla, so mainly there for the credible retro spring effects.
 
Note that their demo is the full, uncrippled version. Aegean asks the evaluator to purchase after a reasonable testing time if you want to keep the software. How cool is this offering. To my sentiment, a far more a binding truth than any convoluted activation hassle.
 
High moral road taken by these guys. Respect their ethic. These are the devs we need to support. I need another reverb like another whatever. May have to chip in to support their fair business model.
 
Also, if you do not already have Aegean Pitchproof freebie, you are missing out on one incredible detune plug. Will have to revisit AmpVision as well.

I agree John...these guys are on the right track...

Good heads up. Been looking for a decent spring reverb for some time, have not found one I like. This could be pretty usable. 
 
And agree with supporting companies that try to do the right thing. FYI, their policy is limited to a single installation. I switch back and forth all the time between a rack mount and a laptop. I've asked if they will consider allowing two installations with only one active at any time. 
 
Still looking for an alternate EMT 140 emulation that works as well as the UAD version. Any possible candidates? (I've skimmed most of the obvious candidates ...)

on the spring reverb, can't have enough!

and my two cents on the EMT 140 - the UAD version is sooo good, If I did not already own a card I think that would be nearly enough, by itself, to justify buying one. None of the other emulations nor IRs I've tried (and I'm sure I haven't tried them all) were in the same ballpark.

Second thumbs up for Greg Hopkins IR offerings. Running them thru Reverberate.
 
Damn Larry, this one was free (request for a donation if they are useful). Otherwise, you are going to run me broke.
 Just as a reference for those who may need a host to load the impulse files. Reverberate LE. Read that it is now stereo...

@ cclarry. Thx for the uri to the IRs. Have tried others in the past with lesser results than what I get with UAD.
 
Some have claimed Nebula to be as good which I believe uses proprietary IRs. Have not pursued given the comments on excessive CPU usage and perception of excessive overhead for a single FX but probably have enough horsepower to consider it. 
 
Assume Perfect Space or Rematrix will be sufficient once I get a few hours to give it a decent go. (need to install the sonar upgrade first)
 
@ wst3. The EMT140 is the reason I even bought a UAD card. Still using it. Some of their other emus are OK, if overhyped/overpriced. Just finding it highly inconvenient to switch between laptop and rack mount. 
 
As for 'enough' spring reverbs, I've been looking for a particular elusive and perhaps unique sound as a result of recent sessions in an all analog studio with several vintage and custom spring reverbs. Very distinctive sound that just works for me. Have tried a few other VSTs but missing the same wow factor that I got when trying the UAD EMT140. Will get to Spirit sometime in the next week.
 
FYI, sent a note to Noah (dev) on the license terms (only 1 instance allowed ). He was cool with installing on two boxes if you only used one at a time and will consider modifying the license. So yes, let's support guys like that. 
 
 

Wondering about something...
 
Not always on top of technology out here in the bush, but saw a neat video on the EMT 140 site showing the production of impulses.
 
The guy was using a tone generator sweep from lo to hi to get the IR's.
 
My understanding was that either a gun or giant balloon went off to get everything across the audible spectrum sampled at once. I've used full spectrum noise bursts to capture bathrooms, hallways etc with some excellent results.
 
The sweep takes time and seems like with a variable decay at different frequencies, you are not getting the real space as intended. Definitely enough to get a reverb trail, but not what a gun shot would deliver as far as realism.
