Good looking wav, and bongos vs. Congas! :-)
(I put on my dark shades and began snapping my fingers)
Especially w/the Hammond. Strong retro vibe. But I like retro?
Ahhh, and the analog synth on the break to bolster the now billowing clouds of "smoke" rising through this musical journey.
I like the vocal, but I would put it out there a little more? I found that as I listened to the song, I was hearing it more as an instrument? And my philosophy is that the song should support the singer, who supports "the message." i.e., It finished, but I couldn't tell you what it was called, or what it was about? One of my goals as a song writer is to be able to play a song for someone who's never heard it, and then they say;
1. I like it/love it.
2. I ask them what it was called? And they tell me (based on the hook)
3. I ask them what it was about, and they give me their impression.
Listening again. I would treat that acoustic, and widen it. Make sure it has a High Pass, and use a compressor, I really like PSP Warmer for acoustic guitar with the "Clean guitar" setting...
But I would make a hole in the middle for the vox? i.e., either pan that acoustic < or > or widen it so it's not competing in the middle. Then take that organ and put it 30-60% < or >
Keep the bass up the gut, but give it some more definition with saturation, compression and EQ, and either pan or widen the synth(s) again, it's really all about making holes? And helping things "sit" in the mix? Without fighting with other things... And by no means am I "that guy?" There are people here who are true masters at it... I used to really really really suck at it? Now I hope I only suck at it usually, but sometimes am "OK at it?
I like your song, your recording/production can improve, but that's a good thing?
