I wondered about that on my HSS Strat, if the 4th position made a triple-coil out of the middle and bridge.

My HSS Lone Star Strat's stock wiring splits the bridge.

Cool. How would one go about finding info about a guitar's pick-ups? Without tearing into it.

If you have a tuning fork, they're magnetic and good for testing this sort of thing - just get it ringing and move it nice and close to each coil and see if you get any noise out of the amp. But be careful not to crank things up, because the PU's magnets are going to pull on it when you get close and you're bound to get a loud thump when you make contact with the PU.

And allegedly tuning forks also have other uses having something to do with tuning.

My HSS Strat has the std 3 way and an additional micro three-way that operates the HB (ONLY).

I still have time to change my mind but I'll go with a 5way and stay away from extra switches.

Also thinking about painting this one Lake Placid Blue Metallic.

Been drizzling rain today so it's been a good day to spend in the shop working on the neck for it.

So I cut the fretslots

Glued it on the neck and trimmed it.

Double action wheel truss-rod. I like 'em for the 21 frets.

I'll wait until tomorrow and radius it, glue in the fretmarkers and sidedots..maybe start carving it too.
Guess I better make some decisions so I know what kind of dots to put in...maybe no fretmarkers, just sidedots hum....and maybe fix the date in my camera lol.

That fb has some sweet grain. And it's a little hard to see, but it looks like some nice flame on the neck too.

LPB is one of my all time favorite custom colors (my Strat Plus is LPB + maple/maple neck), so you'll get no argument from me there.

mmm.... the smell of freshly cut/sanded/worked hardwoods.

LOL...oh that smell, can't you smell that smell...
I don't smell it much when I'm working it- the masks work good but after things settle in the dirty room (where I do all the cutting) it sure smells.

Drew it is some nice flame maple. I'm not qualified to grade wood but since there are small streaks I wouldn't think it was AAA but I'd give it at least an A. ( and I'm sure not a photographer...I think the light in my shop messes with the pics too)
It's from the same board that I put on the Birdseye fretboard/inlayed pickguard vintage style I made for myself and it turned out beautiful. I did put a vintage tint on the Birdseye so I figured Rosewood would be a good change-up.
That one has a "D" profile and this one will be a "C". I really like the neck on my Strat Plus so I make some templates so I could duplicate it....If all goes well LOL.
This will also be my first attempt at painting a Strat too so not sure how that's going to go. Time to give a go I'm thinking.

My impression was that there wasn't really any kind of standard for wood grading so companies end up giving arbitrary number of AAAAAAAAA's. But from a distance in the pictures, it shows up on yours.

About wiring mods:

It seems to me that if you connect pickups to a chip that has programmable switching capabilities, you could have almost endless possibilities.
Even more possibilities if use dual mode pickups, or pickups with coil taps.
So why only a 5 way switch, it's so limited.

Ernie Ball/MusicMan came up with something they call the "The Game Changer" a while back that does this.

But many people don't like/need extra options.
