So, Windows 10 is coming later this year it seems, free for people who upgrades from Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1

I have to admit - I hated Windows 8 so much that I sold my studio computer and bought a Mac - even if it meant that I wouldn't ever use Sonar again. I'm happy to bootcamp with Windows 7 to use Sonar but I'm also starting to really get into Logic Pro X.

Windows 10 starts to look like Windows again. But I'm not sure of what I think of it, being compatible with every device running Windows. I actually can't put my mind around what it is anymore. It's definitely going to work well because technology is pretty good these days, and it seems like they have streamlined the functionality and workflow. But I am utterly on the fence about this.

What are your thoughts?

EDIT: Pardon me, seems like this may have been posted in the wrong forum :p

This is my only concern........the cosmetic stuff, I can always adjust.
Hi Maurice....good to see you again!!

I think Windows 10 is going to be awesome. They blew it in 8, skipped 9, and are betting the farm that 10 is going to be widely accepted. Can't wait to see how the software guys update their drivers to W10. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'll do what I always do - wait a year or two after release when I know all of my hardware and software will run stable on it.

Right now I'm happy with Windows 8 - it's been completely stable and transparent.

BTW, I hated it too for about five minutes, until I installed a free "classic" shell that emulates Win 7.  Since then, it's like using Win 7 (only a lot snappier).

I think it is a good thing.

I can keep my more than beefy Sandy Bridge I7 DAW with an OEM Win 7 license and take it up to Win 10 for $0 which is a great price.  Wait a month or so and let the early adopters work it out.

Cakewalk will be ready for 10.

It is the after 1 year free upgrade period when M$ pops the $10 a month subscription pricing out for everyone who went to Win 10 for free we should worry about.

At this point, we can't say since it is in beta. When it comes out, we'll see how it goes. Most likely should be good and compatible. No big changes in the low end stuff, just getting rid of the tablet crap on desktops. Pretty much it'll be like a copy of 8.1 with Start 8 and ModernMix installed :).

Since my laptop is now no longer needed for music, I've toyed with the idea of Bootcamp, but when I read these forums, I am constantly reminded of downloading drivers and cleaning registries and having to find software solutions for back ups and this and that, all those mundane tasks which I've been free from for almost 5 years. And that's enough for me to postpone indefinitely.

Maybe W10 will be better in this regard.

PS - You seen Logic 10.1 released yesterday? Man, I can't wait for it to hit the Canadian store!

Hope you guys are right about win 10.

All depends on what we are running. Some claim win 8 to be the best windows ever. I have multiple compatibility issues and problems with win 8. Both music and non music bugs.

Downloaded and installed the evaluation ver of win 10. Unfortunately for me, the changes are only cosmetic at this point. Same bugs, same incompatibilities, just can now get to the old start menu faster. Still beta, but not expecting miracles.

If you have problems in 8 they are unlikely to go away in 10 since the codebase is largely the same. What issues are you having? They may be resolvable.

Thanks for the reply Sycraft,

Likely old coding receding into the past, but Adobe Audition reporting an out of bounds error and closes. Was my go to editor and works well in win XP and win 7.

Goldwave editor, any other editor unable to record streaming audio. Only Audacity works. Thank Lord Shiva that at least Audacity is available.

Internet connection taking up to 10 minutes to connect.

WiFi blocks with Netgear router unresolved.

Presonus USB external hardware box unrecognized even after full installation.

You are right, win 10 not likely to solve anything. Bummer, but good news is nothing that can't be fixed if you have a couple thousand dollars pocket change to upgrade and can find something that will work. The way of the future for better or worse.
