Well, some of it may just be code compatibility issues. I don't use any of those editors (Sony Soundforge 11 is what I use) but could be 8 just doesn't like them. 99.99% of older software runs fine, but I've seen stuff that doesn't.

The rest, sounds like either a driver or hardware issue. By driver I don't necessarily mean for that device, but another driver (maybe motherboard driver) causing issues with the system. 8 itself has no inherent issues with networking we have deployed about 250 copies at work and have not seen any issues with slowness in network.

If you've a rather old system, like something that originally ran XP but has been upgraded to 8.1, that might be it. Manufacturers stop supporting old hardware after a time an maybe something in there lacks proper drivers.

Also could be a hardware fault. Doesn't necessarily sound like it, but I wouldn't rule it out without testing.

Even if it is newer, could be some really weird incompatibility. I had that on my laptop. Upgraded it to 8.1, worked great for months. Then suddenly very strange issues. they coincided with a WiFi upgrade but turned out not to be it, the old hardware did the same thing. Reinstalls didn't help, though it worked initially once all drivers were loaded problems happened. I got tired of it and said "the hell with it" and stuck 7 back on. Problem may be fixed for all I know but I don't use my laptop a ton so it stays on 7.

I'll run 10 at release on this computer before I put it in my studio. It will give me time to get use to the changes and give developers time to come out with new drivers. Compatibility wise, much like with Windows 8, it won't be much of an issue. Compatibility Agent in Windows 8 Professional has worked well for me in getting older programs to run without any issues.

I am happy with Windows 8.1 on my DAW but I would like to upgrade the other box which is still quite powerful and running 64 bit Vista. Unlike many people I had no issues with Vista but developers are withdrawing support for it on almost a daily basis. Even a lot of websites won't display properly in the last compatibal version of IE.

Hey Mesh! Good to see you too, buddy ;)

Wow guys, thanks for sharing your thoughts! Since I get it for free, I'll probably have a look at Windows 10, however, now I'll be running it on my Mac(s). But I would love to have a hassle free Sonar environment to work in. I kind of like that they are shaving off more and more of the radical changes to Windows that was introduced in Win8. As long as Win10 doesn't pretend to be a tablet OS - or that I feel I should have a touch screen to use it with elegance - then there's a possibillity that I will keep it too. But I am seriously content in the OSX world for all of my computing needs. The only reason for me to even look at Windows is because Sonar still feels like home

I contemplated using Classic Shell and all that in Windows8, but then I might have just stayed with Win7. Why bother with a new OS if a bunch of 3rd party software is needed to make it feel like the old version? And that charms bar thing drove me nuts! I run windows 7 in bootcamp and it is pretty good! Seems even more stable than my old supersystem that I sold after I contaminated it with Windows 8. I didn't have any problems with Windows 8 - it was superstable but just the workflow in the OS and the constant digging around to find basic functions annoyed me so much! Ha ha, 1st world issue, I know...

Windows 10 really looks like an improvement. And if it acts like a desktop OS then it might be good. I will definitely give it a spin.

Hey Rain, how goes it? I haven't seen the latest Logic update, although there was an update a day or two ago (can't remember) which I have installed, just haven't used the software since. I'll look into that ;)

I'll be willing to bet the promises won't be fulfilled.ever.
don't get me wrong, ms and windows are pretty awesome, given the amount of work invested etc. but it is software, code, running on the same hardware we are using now. miracles ? no. sure, it might be able to do this and that- like an overladen transport truck going up a long steep slope- all the bells and whistles are going to come at a cost of efficiency, like an overlarge orchestra trying to play a composition- invariably, the result is a mish-mash of conflicting noise. I expect we will need a processing power about 10 times what we typically have to avail ourselves of all the os could offer in a seamless fashion. Thats going to be my bet here.

Do it! :) Significant free update, with new sampler instruments (mellotrons will come in handy), a re-designed compressor (gorgeous GUI and enhanced functionality), new Drum Machine Designer, 10 new Drummers, new drum map-ish paradigm with a couple of interesting twists, and tons of interesting new enhancements.

Skycraft,

Newer Dell Inspiron that shipped with win 8. Hard to say where the problem is. Appreciate the thoughts.

On a good note from here, the new 64 bit Goldwave audio editor does record streaming audio. Nice program and they have a demo.

Wow! Yeah, that is impressive. I'm downloading it now, will have a play with it later tonight. This is a big one!

I'm going to hang on to win 7 until support is cut off for at least a year . . . .
