I'm going to hang on to win 7 until support is cut off for at least a year . . . .

How much support do you need for W7? People still use XP. All of my audio interfaces will be doorstops if I leave W7 and it's all M-Audio.  I still have a Terratec card running Vista 64 beta drivers. I'm done with M-Audio.

KiteKrazy1,

If your interfaces work with Win7, they should work above... like 8.1 and 10.

The driver model didn't change there. It did between xp and Vista, but it hasn't changed appreciably since vista.

Just because people still use it doesn't mean they should. The day after XP went offline with extended support, a bunch of 0-Day exploits were released as expected leaving the OS vulnerable to hacks. If you use an XP computer on the internet... well hope you don't use anything important or personal on it.

A lot of people around here prefer not to have their DAW online. I'm guessing that people who stick with XP take that into consideration.

I have yet to meet a person who had any of those infections running XP.

I do not know of two or more people who have a M-Audio FW410 or Presonus 1394 working on a Windows 8 machine without any problems.

They likely wouldn't even know. I'm willing to bet that if they did know, they surely wouldn't be using XP because they would know better. These are exploits, not viruses.

I loved 8 and still do, but 10 is even better. I have had issues with it, but its a beta. You can't complain about that.

I have a recent article somewhere on very old PCs running W10.  The positive about 8 and 10 is they take less resources to run than previous Windows.  Now drive space that's a different story.
