Up to now, I have been low key in regards to the issues concerning the Roland V-Studio system. I've been reading all the comments on the forum and hoping that somebody at Roland or Cakewalk would get a clue, But, since they have not really come out and said what they are going to due moving forward, I've come to the conclusion they are not going to do anything. So, after spending a large amount of money on the system and Cakewalk and Roland Products such as the ARX Boards (Also discontinued) and time spent learning the  V-Studio I own. I've decided I'm done. I'm looking at Pro Tools now. Everybody was telling me I should have went that way in the first, no! I thought these companies have to much at stake. Boy, was I wrong. I'm gone. I guess that's why PT is industry standard, they are more interested in their customers.

Is the unit working for you? Have you been having problems with recording or have you been bamboozled just reading all the comments? What makes you think Roland isn't going to fix the few remaining issues they already announced they're working on? Do you have problems or your problems are everybody elses problems even tho you don't have any specific problem that's hindering your workflow or recording process?

Yeah I've been in that camp too znball and am keeping an eye on the Harrison Mixbus options. PT is good at the high end but I can't get excited about it as a replacement for Sonar yet..it really is another level of expense IMO plus Sonar in itself does work well enough.
 
Tonight I spent a few hours recording a quick song and it was pretty much a very simple process and I wondered again about how much I don't use the 700C to it's full potential now since 8.5.3 due to the pain X1 brought. The 700R though still does the job well and is a good interface.
 
I'm sure most of the ship jumpers are due to the disconnection we are feeling with regard to Cake/Roland but that's just business...Sonar X2 is still getting the job done here BUT it would be great to see some hardware support.
 
All the best znball I hope PT works out for you but I suspect you are going to miss some of what Sonar gave.

i don't have hope as i write for real ....  if ya guyz remember since the X1D bugs have been introduced as well as those 2sec latency on display siwtching (witch makes me crazy  as i work super fast) ....
 
i still think X1 is the best daw (i tried other of course) and planning on testing another solution as a plan B in case of (SSL nucleus) but feedback on it are not that got and ssl dev is some upgrade versus Roland !

I'm all for resolving the issues with the VS 700 and newer versions of the intended host software. Should the VS 700 work with all parts of the host software right out of the box? Absolutely. That means, track controls, piano roll controls, matrix view controls, included plugins, etc. We all know where this is going. Do any of the other DAW host + dedicated hardware combinations work flawlessly and completely? No. Not even the high end rigs. 
The difference between the high end rigs and equipment on our level is the presence of an engineer to do the tech on the problem and fix it on the high end gear. This engineer gets paid for what he does. If you think it all goes in seamlessly with no problems, think again.
I've invested too much time and money in this equipment to just be "done with it". While my situation may be different since I don't make my living off the equipment, the sentiment is the same. Don't abandon the ship unless you want to swim in strange waters. The hard truth here is that free tech support is severely lacking because of the cost of it. Can you afford to hire an engineer to fix these problems and I wants? I can't.   

Crg you speak the truth .....but rarely the hardware was working great at day D , and working worst at D+1 (update) ...i feel you  and we all want or VS 700 to stay , me the first cause the alternative just sucks (avid artists ect ..)   i don't need the VS 700 to do 2000 process !! i want it to the main 100 process with issues !! and we have issues on those main ones !!

I don't see it all that negative. The unit works OK for me; recent mixes could be carried out from the surface to about 95%, but with all the features available I doubt you could go back to 100% mouseless workflow anyway.
 
I'd love to see that channel locking feature fixed, though, and plus some more customization options. There are so many button combinations which are "reserved" (a ka not used for anthing) which I would assign to features that require the mouse ... but I doubt that'll ever happen, so I might just build some MIDI interception layer myself ... got some ideas, just haven't got the time at the moment ...
 
What worries more these days is that there doesn't seem to be any indication of X2b. Knock on wood, I do NOT have an aweful lot of problems the way we record and produce, but occasionally (usually when using features that you don't need every day) it crashes and in complex projects Sonar seems to screw up settings of 3rd Party VST synths ... and ACT Settings are not remembered properly (a Sonar problem that support does not acknowledge to be there) ... but - if they go for X3 without fixing what we paid for beforehand, I won't be buying any more upgrades ...
 
Users of other control surfaces complain a lot about the fact that there haven't been any changes at all regarding their controllers (for 2+ years!) and this makes me wonder if Cake is nowadays just after the hobbyist market (which is probably bigger than pro and semi-pro together) ...
 
So when time allows I'd like to test the VS-700C in mackie mode with one of the other major DAW software tools. I wonder if they did properly implement the mackie protocol back when they released te unit because in that case it could be working reasonably well in these other environments.

I just don't understand, if your so sick and upset just go to another daw.
venting frustrations, I understand and in a manner which we can all understand.
why not mention a few of these issues your having and maybe someone has some work arounds or ideas for you rather than just using your hardware as a coffee table ?
 
ive been bent before too, but ive created a thread asking for options, not im leaving going to pro tools.
I wouldn't even bother writing, id just go. that's me of course.
 

What I find amusing is CW has a system of releasing updates like maybe 3-4 maintenance fixes per X release. CW indicated they were working on fixing bug issues for the VS700. And people still come here and say CW isn't doing anything so they feel abandoned. This frustration ran all the way up to the release of X2a even after being told several times over a month in advance that CW is working of fixes. People rather follow the own world then pay attention to what is actually happening. I can understand people's frustration, and glad that somebody is worrying but how big do the writing on the wall has to be, b4 somebody believe even after seeing the evidence that VS700 is still being worked on?
