You are right Mettelus and it was a good point of interest and I appreciate your post.
I do think that is exactly why so many of the luthiers I talk with like to have detailed drawings of their builds-to cover
every little detail and especially if they're building for a customer.
 
For myself ...not a problem if modifications are needed but I'd probably just build another one instead.

poplar:
allan holdsworth used to have some of his strat-style guitars' bodies made from poplar.
i always thought that would be an interesting wood to play with, alas, i never have had the opportunity.
 
i used alder for my last build, because i knew it and understood it.
 
but i have done customs with mahagony, a strange body i bought in DC that had walnut center with maple stringers, and ash wings...
 
that didnt turn out the way i wanted.
 
my carvin KOA guitar sounds amazing......
there are just so many options, and they all make a difference
