This will be interesting.  PT typically has a high entry cost once you get past the LE versions and free versions that you get with hardware (or just from their site now).

I remember when they offered a free version in the past.  should be interesting

Hmmmm... might be a cheap way of getting used to Protools workflow... if it is similar to the program..

And what a dreadful piece of code it was! I was anxious to finally try Pro Tools, but that one left me more than disappointed. If I remember correctly, some folks had hacked it and increased the tracks limit, but the software was hardly usable, anyway.

They've put out some nice entry-level software since, though.

All in all, Pro Tools cost me $298. $99 M-Powered 9 which I bought a few years back on sale, and $199 for the latest upgrade last November.

I think it's not a software you just jump on or buy impulsively, but if you're patient and study your options, you can get a decent deal.

I have PT 11 and like it a lot.  It has been more stable then Sonar...
and the AAX format seems to work better then VST 3....
but that's just my experience...YMMV

But same project , same amount of plugins (the same) more cpu load , less optimised ...this was my experience , don't you think so ?

I second the VST 3 versus AAX , but i doubt dev have really used the vst " features , they just made it compatibale ...

Not from my experience Zo...PT 11 has been Rock Solid, especially since the 11.2 update...Sonar X3 and now Platinum...not so much...

Granted there aren't as many features (or BONUS 3rd Party Content ) but as far as stability goes it's been solid.

I still prefer Sonar's interface...best hands down...but Sonar is always "balking" at something...be it
Waveshell, or some other plugin or format (VST3 was really flakey when X3 launched), and my Platinum
install was smooth, but running the program was not smooth at all...Melodyne Editor and a few others "choked"
it...so had to uninstall and reinstall to them to get them to work properly.

Maybe the fact that I have so many DAW's installed...but, nevertheless...PT didn't (and hasn't) choke..why should Sonar?

As I stated, that's just MY experience...YMMV....

didn't tried the 11.2  but i always found protools kinda hungry !!! are you suing it in post only ? or even production ....

For X 3 , i bought it , installed it and unistalled it then !!lol

For platnum , i'm still thinking , it's solid , by the way , zero issues with melodyne or waveshell
itried vst 3 , did some test , zero benefit except the bypass , so i cancel the migration , some feature are killaz and make the X1 / platnum transition really worth it (don't know if X3 to platnum is) but the mix recall is one of those great surprise !!

What kills me is that whe you install platnum , it forces X1 to do a full rescan = all my registry is messed up (i used to customise plugins like name , entry ect)

And the worst thing is that there's 2 inventory now so it double my work , i spent the day doing this today and have to do it again tomorw if i choose to insgall also on my second comp !!
