I had to smile at this Bub, I worked with a singer back in the '90's who fitted that description perfectly..

I think you did a fine job of resurrecting this, sounds good and crisp through my phones, nice stereo spread. You could replace those drums I guess, but hey, it is what it is. Bass sounds very good to my ears btw, great tone.

Freddy J, Eric, Shawn, James ... thanks for listening and responding. I've been busy and haven't had time to concentrate on applying the changes, but I plan on doing it tomorrow and posting an updated version.

@james: This one was easy to transfer because there were only a few tracks ... but I have another I may post some day that was an incredible monster. The 8-Track unit I have only has 4 outputs. :( I had a full 8 tracks to transfer and it was a nightmare. I had to do 3 tracks at a time plus the drum track. So I ended up with 3 sets of rips, each with a drum track. Then I had to select the groups and line them up as close as I could, but they weren't perfect because each rip played slightly different being tape. Then I had to cut it in to sections and nudge everything in groups so they would line up. Sometimes the timing would be dead on, but most times it wasn't. It took days to do. It's a tune Sinatra did, don't know if he was the original, called The Summer Wind. It was a request from a guy that used to hire us every year for his company Christmas party. We used to have a Sony DAT machine that we would put backing tracks on for the more complicated songs and we'd play along live with it.

I updated the mix based off everyone's feedback and I remixed it a little and brought down the gain on the limiter. I think it sounds better, but the overall volume may be a bit lower, although it still peaks at -1.0db in a few spots.

I'm trying to get a feel for mixing on headphones since it seems like it's going to be quite some time before I get my real monitors hooked up again. :(

Hmm ... I thought I did. On this second version I raised them by a good 4db and completely removed the SatKnob module and low end roll off, which means the low end was actually raised by a good 22db or so? When I throw on the Cake Analyst, it shows the low end extremely high.

The other thing to remember is ... these drums came from a mono tape track that was recorded using an Alesis-SR16. I can't raise/lower individual drums or cymbals, everything is on one mono track.

I'll keep trying. :)

I had a quick listen to this the other day, not really a favorite song of mine.  But the vocals were excellent and the mix is quite good for a track recorded on a 4 track tape recorder.
