PS Sometimes just take the criticism on the chin don't let it get to you.  The crash is a bit a loud like Bapu has said but on saying that, I think it just needs a bit of EQ and it will be fixed.

          Thanks Ben , I'm not going to let any of that bother me . I plan on  remixing it
          one more time and bring down the crash cymbal alittle bit more and play around
          with my piano track some more . I'm not going to replay it because I like what I
          replayed but the mix and reverb maybe a different piano sound might work .

Hey, James, I just had to come check out your piano song.  Great job playing!  :)  

You know, lots of guys used to tell me the velocity on my piano tracks was too high (like I was hitting the keys too hard.)  I didn't think I was, but what do I know?  Finally, I just decided to lower the velocity of every single piano track I do.  I think Jeff's got a good point...synths just can't capture the velocity exactly right (and well, I probably DO hit the keys too hard at times!) :)  Anyway, it's a VERY easy fix...just select all the notes in PRV and bring the velocity down. That should make it fit the mood better.

Anyway, great track...I like the drums a lot too!

          Hi Janet thanks for the tips and comments on my playing , you might be right about
          the velocity stuff you commented on . The thing is I was playing softly , the keyboard
          I play on isn't the top of the line keyboard its a five year old Yamaha keyboard that
          cost me $160.00 at Best Buy .
          Maybe its the software maybe its the keyboard itself , if I was playing on a high end
          keyboard I'm sure it might sound slightly different I guess but I'm still happy with
          the way it sounds right now .
          I don't want to sound dumb here but what is PRV , in the piano roll in my software?
          I'll have to go there and see if thats what your talking about when you say PRV .

  Kinda funny...but i've ALWAYS had to use the scale velocity to bring down the velocity when using the plugin pianos. And NEVER have had to do any velocity changes when micing my real grand. I think its just something of a flaw in the digital pianos since I use the same touch wherever I play. The plugin pianos are great for rock, etc. where touch isn't as necessary...but once you get into the jazz and classical, the expressiveness is severely lacking compared to the real thing. There is still a market there for somebody. Just highlight your entire midi track and choose the scale velocity. You can scale it down by percentage.

          will invest in a good more expensive keyboard . Next week I finish buying the rest
          of my PC parts for my new computer build Two more sticks of 4GB of ram memory ,
          a new TB hard drive and the new Windows 8 that just came out .
          Hopefully after we move back to Tennessee in Feb of next year I can start saving for
          Sonar X2 and maybe if God willing I can buy it and use it in my new high speed PC
          I'm going to build in the next two week or less .
          With my wife not working and we are both on fix incomes bills and a roof over our
          heads come first then the things in life that give us happenest .

James, don't be afraid of PRV.  And yes, it's piano roll view.  You'll have to use it if you're going to do synths and keys, etc.  At least, I can't see how you'd get away without using it.  :)  I think it's alt 3 in X2. (select your piano track first)  You'll see all those cool little rectangles, which are the notes.  The darker the color, the higher the velocity.  You may or may not see the lines running up to each note, showing the velocity.  In 8.5 you simply had to right click to choose whether or not you want them to show...in X1 you have to go to the menu.  But anyway, you don't need them to lower the velocity really...It's nice to SEE it though.  

Anyway, once you're there, just select all the notes.  The smart (mouse) tool actually works pretty sweet in X1 in PRV (not in staff view!)...you don't have to hit keys or icons to change it to select, draw and delete, etc.  Once they're selected (draw a big loop around all of them), then hover over one of the 'notes' and pull it down and those velocities will all come down.  (The other way to select them all is to just hit Alt A.)  Just make sure ONLY the piano track is showing.

Anyway, once that's done, listen and see if you like the difference.  Sometimes, if you pull them all down at once, you'll notice that some are too low to be heard.  Then you can pull individual ones up too.

Thanks Janet for all this information , I'm still using CakeWalk Project 5 but I'm
sure it works almost the same way . I'll take a look at my Project 5 Book of
instructions and see what they say about this information you just gave me .
