Wonder why guys like Sonnox, SSL, Kush Audio, Eventide, Avid, Exponential Audio et al use iLok2 if piracy does not matter? Presumably they have a pretty good feel for the situation. Then you get all the pinheads, not understanding elasticity of demand saying " if you charged half, you'd sell double" as if these top dsp coders are a pack of morons.

Even when developers say they don't care about the piracy component they sometimes care. Eg Hornet plugins who had a "I know you are not going to leak it on the internet, so no copy protection for you" philosophy, recently changed his mind and added a type of watermark because he saw some of his work floating around warez sites.

Where is the evidence that piracy does not dent sales?

The Sonitus DirectX plug-ins were ported to 64bit some time ago.

Do these only work in Sonar?  I tried loading them in a VST host.  Is DirectX 64 bit capable?

They work in any DirectX host but unlike VST, there is no bridge for DirectX. IOW, 32bit DirectX plug-ins require a 32bit DirectX host, 64bit DirectX plug-ins require a 64bit DirectX host. A VST host is not necessarily a DirectX host too.

I think the timing is also important of when this has come to light, I was on the camel site the other week.. as it's also the end of January for the tax returns etc. ?  so having no sales no, there is a cut of point for the finance people to work from.

if anyone does want a reminder of the sound packs for it.. this is from wayback machine

it didn't like the link , so I URL shortned it with google.. http://goo.gl/TRzpXS

I was tempted to buy artificial intelligence, but didn't .. ah well

BTW they are probably not closing due to piracy.  One of the few useful things I saw amongst the 50+ pages of FUD is that apparently you can find the financials of UK companies on line, and that they were doing pretty well.  I also doubt that they are a VATMOSS casualty because they would probably have posted something about it, much like the HS's of the world.   Here's hoping that they sold out to someone who will keep the product alive for a long time on both platforms.

1) The burden of proof is on the person making the assertion of a truth.  One cannot prove a negative.
2) If people taking measures against something was proof in and of itself it was justified, then the same form of logic would prove some of the most insane conspiracies on the planet. Without figures showing .
3) i did not say piracy did not matter.  i said piracy is unrelated to sales.

so piracy is unrelated to sales? Isn't that an assertion :) What about guys like Michael Carnes who is decades deep in the industry and say it is related?

not sure about the conspiracy theory here...

Look, I'm not going to play the "appeal to authority" game because it would just be us taking turns presenting fallacies.  I have seen other people with just as much experience say the opposite and purposely resisted posting links to articles, quotes etc because all it proves is that when it comes to subjective topics, people quote those who they agree with and ignore those they don't. So, show me some concrete, objective sales figures and i will be glad to look at them.

OK so you are right and I am wrong- even though there are guys on both sides. Maybe you should do a head count over the entire internet of how many guys on each side and make a nice presentation for me :)

While you are doing that I am off for a few hours but will check back in late tonight.

I know enough to walk away when someone is determined to be right.  For me it was not about "right vs wrong" (especially since i don't feel our positions are polar opposites).  I simply stated that i have not seen one shred of quantifiable proof that shows sales increase or decrease relative to the degree of an applications security.  I think Rain has a very similar view to yours but is not nearly as confrontational about it.  it is human nature to feel that our opinion is somehow fact and some of us are more passionate about it than others. To me the idea that this mythical poll would prove anything other than how many people share your opinion and would still not give a definitive answer.   I'm just not that close to it to continue such a silly pissing contest.  Last thing i want is another thread having to be shut because of people hellbent on being right. So I will leave this alone because i doubt anyone is going to change their opinion in the slightest.

Yes, It's good you can step outside of your body and observe the human race there. And you're right- a silly pissing contest- and who started it?
