A new version of String Studio has just started shipping.  Now, I know some of us here (I'm one of them) picked up VS-1 at a crazy low price in some a few years ago and pretty much left it gathering virtual dust on our drives.  A new video suggests this has been a mistake:

The keyboardist, a fellow named Thiago Pinheiro, is jaw-droppingly good.  Admittedly, he could probably make the lamest synth in the world sound exciting.  But the video certainly got me more than a little interested in revisiting String Studio.

Until July 1, VS-1 owners can upgrade for $29 and get an add-on library for free.  Pretty much no-brainer territory in my book.

Ordered. Installed. This is a bargain... although I can't figure out how to adjust the bend range on a patch. I guess I should read the manual.

I bought it, too, for like twenty bucks or something. I had some fun playing with it, and even worked it into a song - once. Since then it's just been taking up disk space here, too.

From the video it seems to me that VS-2 sounds exactly like VS-1, but with a chorus. Not believable as an acoustic emulation, not rich enough to serve as synthesizer. Looking at their website, it does indeed seem to be the same instrument under the hood, but with new presets, new effects, and UI improvements.

Page 53:
The range of the pitch bend is 2 semi-tones up or down by default but can be changed. To adjust
the range of the pitch bend, open the MIDI configuration window by clicking on the MIDI button
located just below the MIDI led in the top part of the interface and use the Pitch Bend Range
drop-down menu to select the range in semi-tones.

I'm sure I can look, but since you all took the plunge:

1) Does it read old presets and add-on packs?
2) Is it 64-bit?

1) Yes - they need to be exported from VS-1 and copied to the VS-2 Banks folder. The export files are automatically imported.
2) Yes

Never mind, a quick look at website answered.  Hmmm.  Like the rest of you, I have used this maybe twice even though i like it in theory.

Pretty much have the same experience as everyone here, got the original very cheap. Have not used it much. AAS offers the upgrade for the cost of the new patch bank. Bought it, if only to support the company.
