Rain

Spent 5 hours at the airport because of a delayed flight.
Once onboard, it went okay - though I hate flying.

Finally made it to our hotel after a long cab ride.
Had 20 minutes to (try to) freshen up and get ready.
People were playing drums in a nearby street... Hippies! I knew it!

I should mention that I've had this cold for a couple of days.
Flying made things a lot worst in terms of feeling congested.
When I got off the plane, I could hardly hear anything, it was like being underwater.
That went on for the entire evening - actually, I'm still not completely ok.

Anyway...

Made it just on time to see the show - which was absolutely amazing.

Had a couple of beers with the cast and tried to go back to the hotel.
Waited for a taxi for an hour, out in the rain. The lady at the gate called them cab company 5 times.
Rain slowed down a bit, we decided to walk and managed to catch a cab a few streets away.

Made it back to the hotel after grabbing a ****ty noodle plate from a nearby restaurant.
But I was starved, so...

Got up at 9, took a quick shower, grabbed a coffee chez Starbuck and hopped on a taxi.

Arrived at the airport and saw the notice regarding our flight, asking us to go to desk x.

First good news of the trip! One of the flight to Vegas was cancelled, and the 9 am one had been post-poned and was just about to leave so we were offered to leave EARLY on. Yay!

So we didn't get to see much of SF at all, and my wife was quite disappointed.

On my end, every time I go somewhere, I realize just how much I LOVE Las Vegas.

SF actually reminded me of Quebec in more ways than one - crappy weather, road work everywhere, bumps and holes in the street, people playing drums in the street.

Must be quite another sight in the summer, but winter time, it's as depressing and damp and dirty as my old country.

I think I'm more a San Diego type when it comes to California...

Told Bill he needs a place like that perhaps.
I don't know - silly day I guess.

SF in summer is probably even more like Quebec since it seems to be colder in summer than in fall!

I lived north of SF in Bolinas for awhile when playing in a jazz fusion band in Marin County. I then worked at a music store in downtown Oakland and took the Bart train from Albani (a town north of Oakland).
Had many a good trip into SF on sunny and foggy days.  Lots of great people, architecture, and history.
My favorite big city but I like living in small towns now.

The context obviously played on my perception of the city - the flight related stress, the wait at the airport, the trouble getting to the hotel, me being very sick, etc...

I'm sure there are better angles from which to judge a place.

I'm sure that at another time, I could have appreciated it, even loved it. I used to love Montreal, and in a lot of ways, SF reminded me of good old Montreal. But last time we went to Montreal, I had a similar reaction - that's no longer where I'm at, and not the type of environment I'm looking to spend time in.
