thanks for listening and critiqueing....

bluesier, this IS my bluesier!
LOL

but the comment about the vocals being overproduced a bit..
that kinda stumped me, because they are just basically raw captures, with a minimum of eq, close to dry, and simply mixed and panned.
one solo voice, one 2nd solo voice mixed in and out, and 3 part harmony.
that's just me singing and trying to blend my voices together, no real tricks or production other than faders up.

the elec guitar, busy, yeah, i'll buy that!
heheh

again, that's just the way i hear it, i don't want it real clean, i want it all kind of sloppy, like a moonshine hangover.
kinda the way i feel right now.......

Cool.  I love the arrangement.  I liked the tune.  The acoustic sounds a little too muddy for my ear, but still very nice.

thanks for listening.....
yea, it's pretty moving, chord wise, yet laid back in the delivery.
that's kinda what i was going for with this 'moonshine' motif
 glad you dig it

thanks man, i have the k240's as well.
i spot check mixes with them, and use them during tracking.

i used the omni setting on the ksm44 for the guitars, not sure that's what i like, i'm still experimenting with that.
it'll be quite a few sessions with it, before i have it all figured out.

appreciate the listen....

hm, acoustics muddy, you are the first to mention that.....
what kind of system are you listening to for playback?

i'll have to mess around with some alternate mixes this weekend, to see what might be making the guitars 'muddy', but on my playback system right now, they're crystal clear..
in fact, i did some roll offs centered around 5khz because i thought they sounded to plasticy and harsh...
and on mastering, i roll off the whole thing around 17k, which is higher than most people hear anyway...
and of course, i always do aggressive high pass on the guitar tracks, anywhere from 100hz all the way up to 190hz....

I'm glad I wasn't near an open flame when I listened to this volatile song.  It's amazing how different people hear things so differently, but I think this mix shines.  I like the balance from top to bottom, and I especially like your vocals.  Those Shure mics really do an outstanding job.  Congratulations for successfully transferring your production skills from one studio to another.

Hi BB, excellent production and sounds, bass sounds spot on to me ,well defined and not to booming. Acoustics sounds very nice, playing's not to shabby either ; )

yes, learning the new studio 'sound' is really weird...
having to learn the monitors, all over again.
it took so long the first time, now again...

Well, I'm using M-Audio BX8a monitors.  They are pretty true and this is beautiful .  All of it.  Maybe a tad of bass rumble at times  but you know it could be just a bass track alone and I'd love that!  LOL  Through the Sennheiser phones the bass sounds very punchy.  We're doing a new song and it has a similar sound through each one.  That makes me think it might be pretty good.  Good enough for Mr. Brew, good enough for Pug!  This stuff's pretty strong!

I absolutely love the acoustic guitar sound in this. Now I know what I need to record my Martin...$999! That mic sure captures the guitar really well. Great tune!

Bass sounds great in the mix as well. I was slightly distracted by the movement of the strat as it seemed abrupt in a few spots, but that's probably just me

Dan

thanks for the tech info.....
i DID mix the bass as deep as i thought i could get away with..
that magic 'rumble' frequency, well, i've just got to find it, and nuke it!!

LOL

i mean nuke it...

i've got several key low end freq's i Nuke now......
and i'm quite convinced i'm right..
but it still needs more dialing in.

i'll check out your new tune, is it up now?
the 'life is good' tune? or is this one you're still working on?

either way, thanks for listening and commenting]
