and problems with importing Iris 1 patches into Iris 2 even though the specs say you can do it, the converted sounds do not sound the same.

Iris 2 also is now bundled with all the extra sounds banks that were previously sold as separate packs - it's all included now with Iris 2.

many at KVR Forums are saying that Iris 2 ofr exisiting users is not worth the upgrade.

if you a new purchaser then it might be good deal but you have to watch 3rd party Iris 1 patch imports.

Thanks for that MachineClaw.  I think I'll pass on the upgrade.  On my aging machine Iris1 is a bit of a CPU hog anyway, so I'm probably due for a hardware upgrade first.

I've got Iris 1 and occasionally use it. Rarely, really. It's a great piece of kit but a "single spark plug" as we say round here. I don't see me upgrading. YMMV.

Iris is the only iZotope product I don't have.

Iris seems like a one trick pony synth but that pony is pretty unique.

I will get Iris 2 eventually but I am in no real hurry.

I disagree that Iris is a one-trick pony.  It's my favorite sampler out there and I use it all the time, on almost every song and sometimes many times in a single project (although I agree that it's CPU-heavy -  even on a great machine having multiple instances slows things down).  Maybe the fact that before Iris the only sampler I used was Dropzone has effected how strongly I feel about this one iZotope product, but with Iris I've made sounds I've never heard before - and it's easy to use.

Too bad the upgrade isn't more backwards-compatible - that was one of my concerns with the upgrade.  The biggest problem I'm having with the promotional material is that the stuff they are advertising is just more of the same - the sounds they use could be coming out of z3ta - what's happened to the focus on creative freedom (which was the focus of all the Iris (1) promotional material)?

Does anyone see anything that indicates that Iris 2 will be less cpu-heavy?

Here's an example of a track I built almost completely around a series of Iris tracks:

https://smaltmine.bandcamp.com/track/amun-ra-pt-2

The percussive scratches, bird-like responses, and chirpy-typewriter sounds are Iris tracks.
Ringing tones are z3ta 2.
Bass is real bass.

I have and use Iris a lot.
I have looked at the upgrade but actually cannot see what use it is to me - I have most (maybe all) of the expansion packs, so I can't see the point in the upgrade - much like Ozone - I could see nothing in Ozone 6 that basically I could not do in Ozone 5, in fact they seemed to have taken some things away - so I did not upgrade.
Yesterday I got an email re the upgrade to Vintage Warmer by PSP. The reasons for this new upgrade seem very sketchy indeed, with these being given as the main reasons to upgrade:-

* save almost 70% over the standard price of $49 US*.
* PSP VW2 v 2.6.0 is fully compatible with all the latest operating systems, including Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite) and Windows 8 and all newest hosts (64 or 32bits) including PT11 and Logic Pro X.
* it includes an additional version of the plug-in: PSP MicroWarmer, which provides the same sound quality as its big siblings but with a simplified single-band interface and low latency performance optimized for use on individual tracks. To see the potential of PSP MicroWarmer please watch the video at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAKkNSF3mwo&list=UUVdU3CMnJ-edC4FeCXK4b3Q
* having a current version of the product registered entails you a larger loyalty discount (up to 7%) toward your next purchase of any processor from our collection (having older version doesn't count toward higher loyalty discounts).

I have to say these all seem poor reasons - Why would I want to save over 70% when I own it
My version works perfectly as it is
I already have MicroWarmer
I actually already qualify for a much larger discount than 7% as I have been a long time PSP user.

It does seem as if some of these software Companies have run out of ideas on how to upgrade their products, but need the cash flow so do a sort of upgrade anyway!! Anyone else getting that feeling?

Iris 2 is getting slammed over on the kvr instrument forum.  Consensus is that it's worth the price for new users, but all the content you've created or bought for the original won't transfer and the features you would hope for in an upgrade aren't there, so not worth the upgrade if you own Iris already.  Not that you should always believe the forum buzz, but that's the consensus, boo on iZotope again.

Nigel - Vintage Warmer 2 is a free upgrade for existing users. It added a few things.
