Apparently, we're flying for a lightning trip to San Francisco some time next week.

I hate flying, and I hate hippies.

I'm not putting flowers in my hair.

And I'm quite disappointed to find out that San Franciscans have failed to honour one of their most illustrious citizens, the great Bruce Lee. I was hoping for some kind of memorial, or to visit his old school or some thing. Nada.

Guess San Franciscans were too busy smoking pot and driving their hybrid cars to the nearest drum circle...

:P

“All these polo-necked wankers from grammar schools were going out and buying songs like ‘San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)’. Flowers in your hair? Do me a f**king favour.
[...]
Who gave a dog’s arse about what people were doing in San Francisco, anyway? The only flowers anyone saw in Aston were the ones they threw in the hole after you when you croaked it at the age of fifty-three ’cos you’d worked yourself to death.
I hated those hippy-dippy songs, man.
Really hated them.”

I am old enough to remember the summer of lurve.

I had a tortoise, and I loved that little feller....

But he ran away.

Coincidentally....

People are always asking me if I can do a negative tortoise impression.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say no.

Hi Rain,
I like the following bands from up there.  Some great musicians also came from the 60's.

Jefferson Airplane
Grateful Dead
Journey
Logos
Santana
Quicksilver
Big Brother & The Holding Company
Blue Cheer
Bonnie Raitt
Steve Miller Band
Counting Crows
Country Joe and the Fish
Creedence Clearwater
Green Day
Metallica (from L.A.)
Tower of Power
The Doobie Brothers
John Lee Hooker

I am not sure what a hippie is anymore but I sure loved these bands!

We've got a lot of hippies in Portland.  Many moved there from SF a long time ago.  I've met people with lots of interesting names like Star or Happiness up here.

If hippies are the worst thing you ever meet, Rain, you are truly fortunate. I have met Nazis.

Well I don't see it as a either or sort of thing. Admittedly, it's all a bit tongue in cheek.

Coming from French Canada, I could have a lot of common w/ the (stereotypical) culture of SF.

But socialism, protests and rallyes involving banners with Che Guevara or Marx on them and and all that non-sense which one is supposed to get over after college are one of the reasons why I feel absolutely no connexion with my own home.

No that I don't care for the environment or for endangered species or social issues - all the opposite. But I won't let that prevent me from washing my hair and wearing clothes that don't look like I borrowed them from a DeadHead. Smoking pot and playing guitar don't accomplish much from my perspective. ;)
