You should thank pesky ol' Napoleon for that holiday, he doesn't get nearly enough recognition...

I remember celebrating July 4th (1981) in London.  Several of the locals joined in because, well, it was just another excuse to down a pint or five.

Here in Britain the concept of Thanksgiving is pretty far-fetched as we generally have absolutely nothing to be grateful for

no turkeys here-in fact it`s a bit of a rarity I have only had a few times-probably because we have huge chickens.
but,we do take the day off to watch a horse race-how egalitarian is that?

also,
we get a holiday for a Queen we don`t want or need,who hates visiting us
we get a holiday to remember our war dead who died for the same queen.
we get a holiday to recognise all the indigenous people we massacred and stole from. 
we get 3 days off for a public execution that happened 2000 years ago and eat chocolate rabbits.
we get 3 days off for someones birthday,even though it`s months early.
 
unfortunately I have always been selfemployed so none of it really matters.
oh well
