I have an OS drive, a projects drive and an external "backup" drive. I know I should have a drive dedicated to the libraries, but I don't. About half of my OS drive will be used for these alone and I was wondering if putting some of the libraries on the projects drive would be a good idea. My external drive isn't a 7200rpm and I believe it's best left alone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! I also have Sampletron, Moog and Sonik Synth.

In lieu of a dedicated samples drive, your best bet is to put libraries on C: (space permitting) in order to to separate them from project files. While you're in a DAW session, the O/S isn't hitting the C: drive hard unless you're running out of RAM.

Thanks Bit. That's kind of what I thought, but wasn't sure. I may just download the other libraries and store them away on the external so I'll have them if I need them. I may need to upgrade to 16gb of RAM at some point, but so far my 8 gigs are getting it done. I wonder how hard it would be to add another hard drive at some point? My system was built by ADK...who could help with that I'm sure. Thanks again.

I did this just two days ago. I put an SSD in a USB 3.0 external case and moved the samples there - very fast. If you have USB 3, this could be a good way for you to go at some point.

Good idea. I do have USB 3, and I'm not using it for anything. Got any suggestions on a  good SSD?

Hi Clint,

I just picked up this 512GB to replace my 128 SSD boot drive. I think this is the best bang for your buck currently. You could save money and go with a 128GB drive. I am now using my 128GB in the external enclosure we talked about. With ST3 and Omnisphere samples, the drive has little left, so it goes fast, hence my suggestion to go with the 512GB if you can swing it.

Here's the external enclosure I'm using. It comes with the USB 3 cable (you need a special cable to get the USB 3 speeds, but any USB cable if using USB 2).

Thanks for the info and the trouble. I'll be keeping that in mind, it may be the way for me to go.

No trouble at all Clint - let me know if you have any other questions and I'll do what I can to help. :)
