All of the above words start with a-s-s. Currently, they all display with ****.

Hi,

I've been harping on this one, too, as it strikes me as a bit assinine. There's got to be a better way to keep the forum relatively clean, which it isn't always anyway. After all, assonancce is at least as improtant in music as dissonance, and a forum is really nothing more than an assembly of people freely associating, asking for assistance...

... so I must assert myself by assailing this policy, because the way I assess it, rest assured that I will assiduously plead with CW to assign themselves the task of rethinking this. But it should be done politely. It's not like I'd want to assault somebody. I'd rather take a more assuasive approach.

The primary meaning of the censored word merely means "donkey" anyway, and is at most a very mild expletive, though I assume that CW feels differently. But I do hope they assimilate what we're trying to say.

Really we should be thanking Cakewalk for their efforts to assuage our concerns about abusive language on the forums.

1) Such linguistic policing has- regrettably- done NOTHING to curb abuse on these forums. The practice of offering rude and insulting comments towards others is flourishing quite nicely, thank you. RTFM is a virtual mantra around here.

2) As a Sonar user who's not terribly good at it, I AM thankful that online resources such as this exist so folks can share info and learn, but if I am to be grateful at seeing legitimate use of the English language decimated in the name of cleanliness and decency, someone's going to have to explain that one to me, because I'm really missing the boat...

How is that rude? That's how we learned what we know. It IS the best way to learn the small details of our profession is it not?

It's more often than not a question of how it's said. I 100% agree that pointing someone to the manual is very often the best and most helpful answer you can give ... it answers the question and at the same time also encourages them to use the manual as a resource.

So, something like:

"Bill - You'll find what your looking for in the Chapter on Juggling Widgets on page 987 of your manual" is fine in my book.

But just "RTFM" on its own is at best a completely pointless comment - believe it or not, often people are not confident finding their way around manuals and do need help.

Best,
Geoff
