I'll have to assume all the assteriks' we see lately are associated with some recent assinine behavior that spilled out from the "coffee house" forum closing I asspect to see this thread in off topics soon

RTFM

How is that rude? That's how we learned what we know. It IS the best way to learn the small details of our profession is it not?

No, RTFM is not, in itself rude. Some may be offended by the "F" component, but I'm not, and I doubt many others around here are either. RTFM is also very good (if rather obvious) advice. My only point is that I've so often seen it used as a way to dismiss the validity of a question, as well as insult the intelligence or integrity of the questioner. And then the name-calling (which really IS offensive IMHO) begins. Anyone who reads these threads knows that this does happen here on a recurrent basis.

And besides, the "F" word is still universally considered a far stronger expletive than the three letter word for donkey, regardless of whether one is bothered by either of them or not.

Edit: Well said, both Glazfolk and almeister. This is OT, and I'm done ranting now. Peace.

Yes I found that it would not let me spell "asign" correctly. Apparently it is OK to say "arse" though, so all is not lost.

Its obvious to me that Cakewalk must have its best programmers working on its products and not its website because whoever decided to take the consecutive letters a,s,s out of every word was an a s s.

Actually, its spelled asinine and probably gets through. How asinine is that?

"Bill - You'll find what your looking for in the Chapter on Juggling Widgets on page 987 of your manual" is fine in my book.
I'm missing 379 pages damn it.

Such linguistic policing has- regrettably- done NOTHING to curb abuse on these forums. The practice of offering rude and insulting comments towards others is flourishing quite nicely, thank you. RTFM is a virtual mantra around here.

The original intent of RTFM was "Read The Furnished Materials." If I were to ever use the RTFM term, that would also be my intended translation.

Thanks for pointing out the behavior. FWIW, I don't believe this is intentional on our part. We'll look into it.
