nice for a short and sweet quick demo.

the guitar sounds pretty good. it has a nashville "acoustic brushing" sound to it.  Light and airy.

The chord after "on the west coast " sounds a bit strange.... in all places it occurs.... the bass note is not in compliance with the chord.

good job.

Mike, this song has a lot of potential, and your demo is nice and tasty.  The acoustic is well recorded, though, on the bright side.  The part lends itself to double tracking and panning opposite each other, but the volume would have to come down a bit.  Your singer has a nice voice, and she could use a light touch of a limiter in spots to catch those peaks.  As I hear it now, there's a lot happening in the center of the stereo spectrum, but not so much on the sides.  The song seems a bit long, but if it was fleshed out and carefully arranged, it could really shine and the length wouldn't be so noticable.  All in all, considering the time you put into this project, you are on the road to success.

Yes Sir I agree with ya Lynn, my thoughts exactly now that I gave my ears a break and came back to it. (Guess I need breaks often  ).  Working on all of it now.  Im trying to find a good mix with my acoustics compared to her guitar to add that wider stereo field with the extra guitar. (Im to picky I guess on what I want as far as sound).

Im not a bass player but I think after about an hour of farting around I miht have found something that works in that BAD note area.

Ill repost when I get it lined out again.

Thanks a BUNCH for the extra ears and comments/suggestions!!! MUCH Appreciated

Hi Mike,
It's a nice song....I think needs some mids...the guitar is a bit too present in the upper frequency spectrum around 4K and it could probably be doubled and panned out wide. I'd grab a reference track to A/B with. I think Sugarlands "Joey" has an example of acoustic guitar with the sound that you're thinking of (tho that might be a 12 string)....your track is more strummed than that one but I think it has the right acoustic guitar sound. Might be a good song to listen to for drum production ideas as well.

Incidentally, what mics are you using?

Im working on the mids, I do have the guitar turned up in the 4k so backig it down and working on some other areas in the mids. Good song for ref (Sugarland-Love 'em).

Im a low budget home project as far as equipment.

Using AKG 220 and CO2 mics, the only others I currently have are an Audix I5, Shure 56's, Akg D112.  They seem to be doing okay for catching this level of recording but I would love to upgrade to better quality once I learn the recording/mixing side alot better

Thanks for the comments

Mike,

That acoustic sounds really sweet. The bass and drums are just right. The vocals are wonderful. Kind of a cross between Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morrisette, IMO.

I happen to like that chord and bass Herb talks about.
