Paul Stanley's voice is busted.

They hired guys to replace Frehley and Criss (though they're much more reliable performers - I always loved Eric Singer's work with Black Sabbath and, to a lesser extent, Alice Cooper, not to mention KISS themselves in the 90's).

And as Gene Simmons himself said it - rock is dead.

Besides, serious musicians and grown ups should despise KISS...

Maybe that's one of the reasons I like them, besides a certain nostalgia - they remind me not to get all caught up and uptight, or to take myself too seriously, and why I got into music in the first place.

I've never seen them and in spite of everything, I guess I had to see them at least once in my life, even if just for the experience and the amazing stage show they put on. And they're here on residency, so it's not like I couldn't find an opportunity...

So my wife bought us a pair of tickets for next week - right up front!!

I bet it'll be fun. :P

Enjoy the show Rain! I'm sure it will be a good time! Let me know if they still play "Parasite" live. I was a huge fan in the '70's. Between my brother and me, we had all the albums. I wish I still had them, especially The Originals set. Have fun!

The setlist seems not to change much so far...

First and only time I saw them was at the Forum in LA in 1976. It was their first tour headlining. I was a senior in high school and a buddy of mine's older sister lived in LA and scored us 3rd row in front of Gene. I haven't been the same since that show. Whether the change was for the better or worse had been the subject of debate among family members for decades. You've been warned.

Wear flame re-tardant clothes if you sit close (or, at least you needed to back in the 70's and 80's!).

KISS will go down in history books as the only band EVER who had me shaking off my natural composure and singing along at the top of my lungs... Not just once, but for the whole damn show!

I really felt like I was 12 years old tonight! (And my voice is busted, as a result of which I guess I do sound like a 12 years old.)

We were like twenty odd feet from the stage, so we were immersed into it. The setlist was similar as that I posted earlier.

Paul's voice is as busted as I knew it was, but he managed it relatively gracefully for most of the show - exception made of Hell or Hallelujah, the end of which was uncomfortable, and a few sour notes here and there.

Gene's voice is actually pretty good, and hasn't changed that much.

Tommy Thayer is a solid, reliable, no non-sense old-school rock guitarist, and he did a good job with back vocals, covering up for Paul a bit in choruses.

As I said, I always dug Eric Singer - and he surprised my wife and I with a very solid vocal performance on Black Diamond.

But, really - they had me at Detroit Rock City. :)

I'm off to listen to Alive and Alive II. :)

Karyn, Rain stated in another fred that his iPhone is an older model that makes things look retro.

Wait. I see what you did there...
