Wow resizable and dockable  windows. Who would've thought? Oh and it seems Cubase now has true floatable  windows and multi monitor support. What will they think up next?

Touch panel input devices?  they will probably work with Slate on that but it will be the Cubase Pro GOLD version and cost 10K.

LOL.

I've got v8 downloaded but I have had so much fun with Cubase 7.5 in the past month that I am reluctant to distract myself from a creative spurt by installing 8.

I have been wandering around the Cubase 8 forum learning what all the early adopters have discovered and I am planning my install. I don't have Aero running in an obvious or annoying manner on my system. I checked and was happy to learn that the two specific system "performance" check box options, that I need enabled, are already enabled on my system so I don't think I'll have to see anything Aero-like just because I install v8.

I am very excited about the new Circle of Fifths Chord Assistant tool. I think it is really, really cool that a DAW has built in music theory reference tools that are so easy to access and have such a nice display of information.

I have thought about getting Cubase but I know that I will not want to learn a new way of working though I think that maybe a change in the working environment could somehow inspire me. But common sense tells me that Sonar is the way to go for me.

Sonar is really vary capable.  it's my main turn to DAW.

no reason to test the grass if your workflow is working for you.

having any other DAW for a particular thing you might need that Sonar does not provide is an investment in money, time and effort.  sometimes not really worth it.

I use Cubase 7.5 for 1-2 things really and am still trying to grasp it and it's workflow.  workarounds or figuring out how to do it in sonar is sometimes more effective and timesaving than trying to figure out how Cubase works just to use that one feature.

DAWs are kinda like vst effects.  many out there, some better than others, some are one trick ponies that do that one trick exceptionally well, but it doesn't mean you HAVE TO HAVE it.

Use what works for ya and if your having fun, doesn't really matter what tool you use.

I was trying to figure out what VCA was in Pro Tools...

So basically, it's a feature that enables you to do exactly what you would accomplish in Logic or Sonar if you grouped or even just freely selected a bunch of faders and moved them?

Only in Sonar and Logic, it doesn't have a name because, it's only normal that an operation should be performed on multiple selections... :/

No. You have to research to understand it. It gives you capabilities unavailable by just grouping faders. Seems like it's geared more towards professional mixers than composers.

Sonar is still ahead on windows management. C8 still only docks the media bay and synth rack and managing tracks is better in Sonar. Deep, powerful function is where Cubase rules. One of my favorites is the way it handles sample libraries and frees you from the tyranny of key-switches.

Docking windows remind me of DOS.

I like (floating) Windows.

MachineClaw, after I read your comment I remembered that I have another DAW also. I bought Reason a couple of years ago. Why this happened was partly because I had read about the possibility to Rewire Reason. Then when I went one day on one of my, then usual, synth hunts, I noticed in one big music equipment store, that there was Reason 4 for 50 €:s, about 60 US $:s, in a discount box and bought it. But I have only tried to use Reason as a DAW once or twice and very briefly. It felt so different that I just decided to forget about using it as a DAW, but I will try to use it as a synth thingy more often. I have just about forgotten it but I believe there is one very good synth sound source right there.
