I switched from SONAR to Cubase a while back because Cubase had two things I really like and use a lot: a much better tempo editor than SONAR (I realize this won't be a high priority with most folks) and better MIDI capabilities - MIDI sends in particular.  This latest release of Cubase has left me underwhelmed.  Maybe the heralded performance improvements will be of benefit - too early to tell on that one.  Other than that, the only thing that really floats my boat is the VST manager - something SONAR has had for ages.  It would take very little for SONAR to win me back, but I fear my priorities are hardly mainstream, so I'll probably stay put for a very long time.

Oh yeah, one more thing.  Cubase 8 requires that you use Aero graphics if you're on Win 7.  I *hate* Aero graphics.  To me they look like Microsoft's attempt to capture the fancy of a generation of users plagued with ADD,  The iGeneration.  Aero is ugly, ugly, ugly - far too gaudy and garish compared to the Windows classic UI themes.  Now I must have Aero enabled for everything I do on my DAW.  Cakewalk, please take note in case that sort of thinking was starting to enter your thinking.  Be advised, there are a lot of unhappy campers in Steinberg land over this "improvement".

Funny you should ask.

Punny you should notice.

I've been running my current DAW for two years with out any evidence of Aero effects, yet when I went to look I found that the two system performance selections that I needed to have selected were already selected.

The easiest way to get those selections selected is to use an Aero theme, and yes, the warning dialog says "you don't have Aero" or something like that, but if I am willing to open up the Systems>Performance dialog and confirm that just two small conditions are selected I can continue to use a Windows 7 Basic theme and I don't have to view an Aero theme.

Does the QueueBass forum have a gaggle of unfunny users like we have here?

Are their Forum Hosts better or worse than ours?

Is snark allowed?

Do they serve popcorn?

Nein, snark ist verboten, aber allis nicht lustig

Having said that, the new effects and the tuner seem, to me, like a waste of dev time.

Check out the new Quadrafuzz. It's an update of my original design so they didn't have to spend a lot of time on it. No other DAW incorporates similar four-band multiband processing in a single effect (however TH2 can do biamped processing). You would need to get something like iZotope Trash or Guitar Rig, which can set up multiple splits.

Unfortunately the new QFuzz won't load in other hosts so in SONAR, I have a track preset that includes the effects needed to replicate what the Quadrafuzz does. I also still have the 1.0 Steinberg version, which loads into SONAR.

As to warping, for just taking any file, bringing it in, and having it quantized, I have yet to find anything better than the pro algorithm Ableton Live uses. I bet it cost a bunch to license...it's outstanding and no one else has it. It's something Traktor should have!!!! I use Live to prep the files so that they're consistent enough for Traktor, which can't do warping (a major drawback in an otherwise stellar DJ program).

They've been using elastique forever, but the other algorithm was added later. Probably is from zPlane, but I don't think it's the standard elastique algorithm that's so commonly used.
