Howdy folks...

I've just spent the last hour shopping the dreaded PT options for the first time in detail and without starting THAT debate all over again, although it isn't in the same context (venom?) in the 700 forum, there seems to be some solid options for hardware integration with the Eucon gear for example not all that expensive.
Choices Right Now IMO:
1. 8.5 has no long term future. <cue flushing toilet sample>
2. X1 & X2 are not fully implemented under 700 control so no point sticking around 'hoping', the writing is quite clear.
3. Mackie or similar options. Been there years ago until 700 stuff came out so this one makes me say %*&%!
4. Jump to another platform.
5. Stay a Sonar flag waver in the hope they may one day give a stuff and fix their integration 'issues' (IF POSSIBLE!!??) before getting the next commercial release to market that doesn't fix these related issues anyway. Thanks for nothing?

No real shock with respect to Cake as I believe the big corporate has dumped them with this and they prolly accept a lose of any small portion of customer base (like me) who would consider jumping over to another platform that actually DOES have a hardware supported future.... personally I very rarely do the whole MIDI edit thing so perhaps I've been on the wrong boat the whole time and was silly to want a tactile set of faders...maybe I am too old school maybe? There must be a LOT of mouse happy mixing folk out there?

Can anyone here state that the 700C works fully under PT10? I'm thinking about trying out the free demo of PT10 (haven't used PT literally in years!) with the 700C. Short sighted of them to demand an iLok for a demo though...

Anyway thanks for any input fellow sufferers and unless I hear a genuine squeak of hope about all this, I am continuing to do more research on options 3 & 4. The other ones sadly have no future IMO but I would love to hear qualified thought from fellow users.

Cheers!

Hey Mully, I've also been doing some research. As I too am one of those old school folks who wants nothing to do with the mixing with a mouse etc. The very/only reason i came to cakewalk was because of the VS 700 system, so for me there is no reason to stick around if they're not gonna support it. I'll jump to any platform that has good support for hardware. It's rather deplorable that those of us who have put the most $$$ down seem to be thought of last or until we make a little noise on these forums after every release/upgrade. I know Zo was saying he's gonna try out the Newcleusso I await his findings. Eucon can work with other DAWs as well so that won't make me stay either. I don't want to leave but more feel like I'm being forced to, can't support ppl who won't support me.

Hey mate... I forgot about the Nulceus, thanks. Will check it out...again.

Didn't realize the 700 gear brought you here...I can understand your pain alright! Damn...

I can't help but wonder if PT actually is the wiser way to go as it simply has SO much support? Hmm..

Was just now looking at the Mackie options... at least you can jump to all places with MCU. I sold it off to get onto the 700.

Cheers for now.

I reckon we got hit by what is happening everywhere in the corporate world ... big company takes over smaller one, bean counters compute their ratios / yardsticks and what doesn't fit, gets ditched ... even if it's the technical flagship ...
Just hop over to the X2 forum and you see where Cake is (probably forced to) making money: the everyday customer with bedroom studio who pre-orders every update ... and keeps the cash flowing ...

Anyway, keep us posted in case you get around testing 700C with PT10 ... sounds like an option when it comes to stability and performance ... yet aren't we mostly complaining about the lack of integration ... ???

Hey mate yeah it if it looks like a duck... it is probably a duck.

If it wasn't for the iLok business I would have it installed and running by now. Started looking at the Eleven rack option as the sounds are quite good and PT10 is included which makes it interesting and all under $800.

Also checked out some Mackie controllers... the big boys which you can get for less than $2500 s/h like the DB8.... GREAT looking bit of gear.... need to do some more integration satisfaction homework tonight though but thinking seriously about listing the 700 gear and just moving forward.

Mixing with the 700 now bites (for me anyway) so can keep all the other releases I have of Sonar in the event I want to go back to mouse based editing etc.

Back to the Google searches!

PS: if anyone is interested in buying some 700 gear, drop me a msg as I am seriously now considering it.

Cheers.

Personally, I've got no doubt that fixes are being worked on, and I'm sure it will be back to the X1 level of functionality in the next update. Which is fine by me; there are some feature enhancements I'd like, but it's still a very good system just *working as advertised*. And that's my gripe. I don't think I'm asking very much here.

I don't think I'll let go of my system soon since my interface is being investigated for modification by the BLA guys.

Next stop for me will be the SSL matrix with some Metric Halo I/Os and external pres, probably Phoenix/Manley stuff.  So I have to make a lot of money with the VS.... Even a second I/O is not out of the equation for now.

When I'll hit the $50k mark, I'll see what king of experience I had with Roland.... I just don't want to get a big a$$ loan to pay if I lose patience before....

Hmmmm..... have since had a good read in another couple of forums tonight and there is a surprising number of folks who venture back to Sonar it would seem... this is unexpected pause for thought.

I used to REALLY like Sonar and feel sure that PT is going to have a load of pain especially after all these years of Sonar....are you guys actually confident that Cake are going to fix this situation? I wish I had that hope but can't see it....?

I'm looking now at other surface options like the MCU (extenders too Norrie!) and the ZED-R16 etc... heck, maybe even the new Behringer thing. Would prefer to stay on Sonar obviously.

If the DB8 worked great, then I would buy that in a heart beat... it looks sweet.

Cheers...

Just thinking about fader expansion.... could another device such as the mackie extender pro could be added to the vs700c?

I really dig the led crown around the knobs to show actual setting.

If you guys are thinking of another control surface the Slate Pro Audio Raven X1 will be getting revealed on the 20th of this month. I hear its going to be in a few sizes.

Has any one ever tried another device along side the VS ?
