Great production Bob - no surprises there I guess - you seem to have your musical style/sound pretty well nailed. I don't really feel in any position to give mix advice to you, but if you were to insist I'd say that that the drums just seemed to be a little on the bright side.

Hi Bob, nice to meet you, great song. I had to listen to everyones songs this morning with my DT100s on.. not the best way. I felt this one definitely needed my HR824s to do any justice to it :). If I may make one critique, some of the guitar balance is a little off still against the drums.. but, again, could be my headphones not giving me much of the bottom end.

Cheers,

Tony

Good "in my face" rock. Like the tone of the guitars. The beginning guitar intro - smoother left to right transition....maybe a tish of distant ambience added in the right ear...just rambling thoughts...lol. I enjoyed it.

Hi Bob don't know how this song of your slip by me , maybe because I have too busy trying to catch up with you .
Yea right , maybe someday when I'm old and gray sitting in a rest home wondering if my PC is going to blow a fuse at any moment ! LOL

Hey this song rocks as all of your songs do , one thing I did noticed is at the beginning in the mix .
I'm getting one sound in my right headphone , five seconds later I get all sound in both ears .

NOTE: Mix #2 up now, thanks to everyone for your good input, observations and advice!

After everyone's observations, for the remix, I added a touch of grit with a bitcrusher to the bass guitar, did a little bit of EQ surgery on the bass tracks, beefed up the low end on the drum bus a little bit and low-passed out some of the brightness that a few of you mentioned on the drums.

Hopefully it's sounding better, and the overall volume levels are still pretty even.  Please let me know if you think anything way out of whack!

Thanks again, folks, for your input!
Bob

Hey, Paulo,

How are you, buddy?  Doing well, I hope!

Thank you very much for checking in on this one for me, and for your kind comments and good input!

After both you and Mark mentioning the overly bright drums, for this second mix I beefed up the bottom end on the drum bus a little bit and slid down the low pass filter a few notches to try to take the edge off the high end a little and control the "contrast" with the dark rhythm guitars.

Thanks very much for your observations and input, I greatly appreciate you giving it a listen.  Best wishes!
Bob

Hey, Tony,

It's a pleasure to meet you, my new friend, and welcome to the forum!

Thank you very much for taking time to give this song a listen and for your kind words and observations.  As I mentioned to Paulo above, for this second mix I took your advice, along with Paulo's and Mark's, and pumped up the low end on the drum bus a bit and pulled out some of the highs to alleviate some of the brightness.  I'm hoping it did the trick and that it will have a little more bottom end on your headphones and monitors.

Thanks again for your input, Tony, getting good feedback on what others are hearing on their systems, in their own listening environment, is what makes this forum such a great place for helpful input on a mix.

Much appreciated, have a great weekend!
Bob

Hey, Jay,

Thanks so much for giving this song a listen for me, and for your very encouraging words and input!  I really appreciate you checking it out and taking time to comment.

I also just want to mention that your song, "Our Shining Star" on your Soundclick page is absolutely fantastic!  It's a commercial quality pop song with great sounding guitars, a spectacular female vocalist and pro sounding production work.  Really good stuff!

Thanks again, Jay, and have a great weekend!

Wow!

This is just wonderful Bob

Love the guitar work as always, and I'm really enjoying the extra 'darkness'.

Definitely a keeper my friend.

BTW Bob, I've still got your CD in my car and it gets a regular play through

Hi, James,

Thanks so much for checking this song out for me and for your kind words!

Yes, Sir, during the intro the left guitar comes in by itself, and then the right side a couple seconds later, so that was what was intended.  You may have just had your headphones on backwards when you gave it a listen, so what you heard seemed reversed.

Hey, by the way, you did a great job on your latest post "It Makes No Sense to ME", nice work on the vocals!

Thanks again, James, I appreciate your input and comments, have a great night, buddy!

Hey, Steve,

How's my best pal from across the water doing?  Hope you had a fantastic weekend!

Sincere thanks for checking in on this one for me and for your kind comments and input!  As I mentioned a few times before, your kick-butt guitar tone, playing style and the great music on your VeRy Metal and Strummy Soundclick pages was one of the main reasons that I joined the forum in the first place, and your continued input, advice, friendship and support truly means a great deal to me.  Besides, us kindred spirit 80's metal guys have to stick together to keep the fire burning for the future, roight?

Also, thanks so much for the comment about the CD, to me, that's the best feeling and greatest compliment ever, when someone tells me that they still play the CD on a regular basis after they've already had it a few months.  That really makes all the time spent and hard work learning this stuff and constantly testing and experimenting with new techniques and ideas all worthwhile to me.

Much appreciated, Steve, and thank you again, my friend!

Hey, Tony,

Thank you very much for coming back for a second listen to the remix for comparison after the changes!  I'm very grateful for your input and observations that mix #2 was a move in the right direction.

That type of very helpful information from a second listen is always highly valuable and greatly appreciated.  Since getting into learning digital recording and mixing, I've always said that it reminds me of getting a standard vision test at the eye doctor's office.  Every single click of the mouse on a slider, EQ, compressor, envelope or effect knob has to be looked at as either "better or worse" just like the lens changes in a vision test, in order to confirm that all the little details are working together in a project.

Thanks again for coming back to check the remix and for your kind comments, Tony.
Best wishes!
Bob
