Beepster
Hi, guys. I finally finished my tester song. There is lots wrong with it and I'll give details soon enough but I'm about to fall off my chair from exhaustion. Just getting it up on the forum will give me a sense of completion. It is a wanky metal song (I do all styles but metal is far easier for me to compose and produce so I stuck with that for my first attempt). The performance is kind of sloppy for me and I'm a n00b in regards to digital recording but this more intended for me to learn Sonar and certainly I learned and ton doing this. Next time will be better. You might want to turn down your speakers because I have no idea how other systems are going to handle this and it is pretty noodly. So here ya go... Beepster Metal http://soundcloud.com/use.../beepster-metal-16-bit Cheers and thanks to all who have helped me since I've been here. You guys rule.

wow... good job of lowering expections... LOL... this is really fine work... (the drums are buried in the mix though) I'm hip to the exhaustion... ya' gotta know when to take a break...
Masterful performances... great work...

@notnat... Thank you so much for the kind words. Yeah, the drums were the biggest problem with this. It was intended just as a test of BFD Eco's standalone mode so I ended up with a stereo drum track that I couldn't do anything with once I tossed it into X1. I'm making some dinner now to hopefully get my brain straight again but I'll toss up all the details of what I did with this when I'm feeling a little more... uh... not whack. BTW there are no amps or anything involved with this. It was all done plugged straight into my interface and processed completely within Sonar and GR5. Cheers.

Thanks, Mike. If anyone is interested that's the Hot Solo head and the MT-2 (Metal Zone) sims with the Fast Comp in GR5 on multiple tracks with varying cabinets in Control Room Pro. Cheers.

Lol, Beep, I was grinning all the way through that man. Very "Dork Metal" indeed haha.

Loved the guitar work, and knowing how you did the drums it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

If that's a so called test or learning project then I can't wait for something that is a bit more complete, and more like seven minutes long, with something like that in the middle. Excellent bit of axe work there Beep.

To be honest, I mainly listen to prog and metal nowadays and I wish I could produce this kind of stuff myself, but I tend to stay in my comfort zone and produce simple electronica.

Anyway, on to X2 for you now huh?

cheers

Great stuff Beep - I like me a bit of metal, even though my own stuff is mainly old style prog.

You want a bit of constructive criticism?

I'm pretty sure I can hear more than one "chugg" rhtyhms in there, and I hope you double tracked them the proper way by recording them multiple times? Try panning your "chuggs" out really wide. It will open up the production enormously.

You already know what's wrong with the drums so no point in going over that again.

All in all, a great first song from Sonar.

Keep on learning/experimenting/reading.

Hey Beepster, it's good to see and hear you on this forum.  You sure have the chops for metal down to a tee.  Though the drums are low in volume, they are programmed well and drive this piece.  Will there be vocals?  Either way, you don't have far to go to get this into the next level of coolness.
