Hi, guys. Just woke up from a much needed sleep. Thanks for listening and all the kind words and encouragement. It's a little silly but I kind of got a bit nervous about posting it. This would not have been possible without all the help I've gotten from the forum these past few months. This place is brilliant. Once I get some caffeine in me I'll start typing up the blow by blow on my procedure to hopefully get some input on where I can tweak my techniques.
@synkro... Thanks, man. I kept it short and sweet with my foot on the gas this time. I figured I'd give myself just enough material to dig into the various aspects of recording and producing the style. As far as the Techno vs. Metal thing why not mash them together? I was big industrial fan as a young lad and always liked electronic stuff with some down and dirty guitar crunch. Heck, if you want I could try to metalfy some tracks for you or shoot you some riffs to loop. If it has a beat I can usually get something evil happening. Guitar parts are easy for me. It's everything else that messes me up. Cheers, dude. ;-)
@Jonesey... Thanks, man and yeah I think next to the drums the rhythm guitar parts are the next thing that are lacking. Kind of a combination of issues that I'm looking to remedy (which I'll detail later). There are indeed two distinct rhythm performances. I panned them out to about 10% thinking that would be enough but when (and if) I revisit this I'll keep that in mind. I don't know much about proper mix separation but I'm learning so future endeavors should be a little more presentable (I was trying to go for a nice Slayer type chug but it didn't quite work out). I didn't really dig too much into that kind of thing with this because of the stereo drums. I just couldn't isolate the kit pieces so trying to get everything out of the way of each other was proving very difficult. It was a bad mistake to use the BFD export instead of doing things right in Sonar but I was excited to play with it and that's what went down. Cheers, dude and thanks for listening.
@digi2ns... Thanks. Definitely gotta do something about the rhythm guits. The next electric guitar experiments are gonna involve some fancier input techniques so I'm hoping that will help get rid of the squishy squashy sim sound. If it comes down to it I may just mic my amp with distortion already applied for this kind of stuff but I'm really hoping to get a handle on all this sim business to keep things simple and completely editable as far as FX. Cheers.
@Daryl... Thanks, dude. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do next. I am kind of tempted to stay on the metal train just to get it right but I also want to dig into some acoustic stuff as I have about 40 songs or so I need to record for one of my bands. However I was thinking of recording a metal album at the same time so when I get burnt out on one style I can switch over to another to cleanse my musical palate. Cheer, man and thanks for listening.
