He now reveals it is a concept album, written from a womans perspective, about the life and death of Joyce Vincent. Knowing his work, and the tragic story of this popular Londoner who died and remained undiscovered in sobering circumstances, this already sounds intriguing. Steven Wilson is an artist about whom you can be as certain as anyone can be in music of quality assured... looking forward to it already...

Looks very interesting. I see Guthrie Govan and Marco Minneman in there too, should be top notch.

Since I have to wait until February, maybe I'll just have to go and listen to that Kate Bush album he mentions!

I am keenly awaiting this one!

The Raven that Refused to Sing was the best Prog album for almost four decades!

Hmm...  I've got that one as well as two others (which I think is all he's produced), so now I'll have to go back and re-listen.  I remember liking it, but not as the best Prog album for almost four decades.  I've got so much Prog now that I don't even think I'd want to nominate just one as better than the rest!

Yes, a bit of a sweeping statement from me I think. Of course as usual "best" should be substituted by "favorite".
For me, Prog seemed to implode around 1975 when the first wave of bands began to run out of ideas, hardly surprising when you look at what happened in the preceding six years. The revival was slow in coming.

There is a lot of more recent good stuff, but "Raven" is my favourite. Other contenders include Big Big Train, Touchstone, Panic Room, Mostley Autumn, Ian Anderson, Karnataka and Syzygy.

I quite liked "Fly From Here" by Yes but found the new album disapointing.

Just listened again today and, yes, it IS good stuff!  So are the other bands you mention.

May I humbly suggest trying some Eloy or Djam Karet?

Looking forward to this one too.  I'll throw out there that the new Opeth album has, as one reviewer put it, "gone full King Crimson".  It is great.  All the metal Opeth seem to hate it, all the prog Opeth fans love it. I'm in the love camp....
