I actually have song going right now where I just could not get a starting point drum kit to give me what I want. Just then the Toontracks' Rock Warehouse SDX goes on sale. I bought it and guess what? It fits the song I'm working on to a T.

Just watch. Everyone else will hate it.

The latest IK group buy ... best case is buy one get four free ... how could anyone say "no" to that?  But then I looked at the plug-ins available that I don't already have.  There's some nice EQs (already got lots of nice EQs, including FF Pro-Q 2), there's some multi-band stuff (again, pretty much already covered), some verbs (got Aether and the Waves IR1 convo verb).  Just don't really need more stuff like the stuff I've already got.

So, even if they IK buys come down to an average of 25 bucks per plug-in, I just don't need 'em.  Saying "no" this time, and kind of amazing myself that I'm doing so.  Could never have done so a year ago.

I've never had trouble saying no.

It hasn't got any easier to say Yes either because I still only have 2 buttons and a length of thread to my name.

Having said that I'm always stoked with the stuff I do have and use regularly and much of the best bits among that have been provided by the benevolence of many of my chums here over the years if the truth be told.

So if anyone does have too much stuff they can't find a use for PM me with a list and I'll tell you what I can take off your hands.

I can't say fairer than that.

Can I come huddle in your hovel? I can bring my last shred of dignity.

Not until you've lost that very last shred will you belong among us...

I've hit a wall when it comes to my purchases. I'm also finding it hard to find something that I don't already have or have something better be it hardware or software. Of course, I'm taking into consideration practicality, as well.

I used to work in music stores back in the day when midi was just catching on …the late 70's to mid 80's
while having my morning cup of coffee  there would be a line outside of Manny's Music full of people waiting for the store to open up just so they could pay top dollar for a DX7 or even a CZ 101 ….i kid you not …

having come from that era and point of view ,
it is absolutely mind blowing for me to be able to take a computer w an external sound card and pack a few hundred grand worth of music tools on it for not much more than it would have cost for a keyboard or two back in that day ..

as far a being able to say yes or no when it comes to buying a lot of stuff I may need or not need …
I would have to say that it depends on what it is and what my intended use for it is…
Guitars , amp and pedals …I'm good , that base has been covered in spades for a long time …

since I get the impression this topic is more about music software , software instruments and plugs …
I would have to say that I'm learning to discern and be more selective about what my true needs are as opposed to what my wants are …

I've been sporting my own way with my music recording for years on my own dime ….as many of us here have .

my short answer for saying yes or no on a new software purchase depends heavily on what the intended use or payoff is and whether I have the money or not to be able to buy it.

I had a next door neighbor that had 3 boats while living in an apt complex , this guy used to give me pounds of fresh Salmon he caught just for keeping an eye on his place when he was out of town …
I asked him one day if it was any cheaper to do your own fishing ? he laughed and said no , it's way more expensive …
he liked the feeling of accomplishment and he loved to fish….
them poor old fish never stood a chance ….The friend had a sonar system installed on his boats .

What chance do I stand ?
I guess  is it's a big world out there and I'm just a little fish …
I can say this for sure ,  man , these software companies sure know exactly what bait to throw on the ole hook

Now , I'm totally confused , I think i may need to find a 12 step program just for these type of issues ..
I know I can quit , I  know for sure that I can quit any time I want to …yes I can …..
