I used to work in music stores back in the day when midi was just catching on …the late 70's to mid 80's
while having my morning cup of coffee there would be a line outside of Manny's Music full of people waiting for the store to open up just so they could pay top dollar for a DX7 or even a CZ 101 ….i kid you not …
having come from that era and point of view ,
it is absolutely mind blowing for me to be able to take a computer w an external sound card and pack a few hundred grand worth of music tools on it for not much more than it would have cost for a keyboard or two back in that day ..
as far a being able to say yes or no when it comes to buying a lot of stuff I may need or not need …
I would have to say that it depends on what it is and what my intended use for it is…
Guitars , amp and pedals …I'm good , that base has been covered in spades for a long time …
since I get the impression this topic is more about music software , software instruments and plugs …
I would have to say that I'm learning to discern and be more selective about what my true needs are as opposed to what my wants are …
I've been sporting my own way with my music recording for years on my own dime ….as many of us here have .
my short answer for saying yes or no on a new software purchase depends heavily on what the intended use or payoff is and whether I have the money or not to be able to buy it.
I had a next door neighbor that had 3 boats while living in an apt complex , this guy used to give me pounds of fresh Salmon he caught just for keeping an eye on his place when he was out of town …
I asked him one day if it was any cheaper to do your own fishing ? he laughed and said no , it's way more expensive …
he liked the feeling of accomplishment and he loved to fish….
them poor old fish never stood a chance ….The friend had a sonar system installed on his boats .
What chance do I stand ?
I guess is it's a big world out there and I'm just a little fish …

I can say this for sure , man , these software companies sure know exactly what bait to throw on the ole hook
Now , I'm totally confused , I think i may need to find a 12 step program just for these type of issues ..
I know I can quit , I know for sure that I can quit any time I want to …yes I can …..
