  • Controlling TH2's Wah with breath controller, just not happening

I can't seem to get the wah to respond to Breath Contraller (CC2). I have set it under midi bindings in preferences, but nothing. I have tried using ACT, but nothing. It's hard using act with my Midi Sax, as it send note on, Pitch Bend and breath control messages all at the same time. So I set up the midi channel, recorded a blast and edited out the event list to just be CC2, but ACT still doesn't respond. The Midi preferences should be foolproof though, am I that bad a fool?

Any sugestions?

Make sure to "Enable MIDI Input" in the VST2 drop down at the top of the TH2 UI. Then one way to control the wah would be to add a MIDI track with input set to the controller and output set to TH2. Setup Wah pedel MIDI bindings in TH2 for the appropriate CC.

Thanks, I had missed that, but still not responding unfortunately.

Just in case it's relevant, this is on a synth track, not an guitar. I am playing the Lounge Lizard, and when I choose say frequency on the  phaser effect, the frequency is responding to breath controller CC2. Does having a synth in front of the TH2 cause an issue. I can't think why it would, but just wondering.

Nah, created new project, inserted audio track, added TH2, enabled Midi, checked Midi bindings, blew, nothing.

When testing on the audio track, you still need a MIDI track to route the controller data to TH2.

I don't know what this

means. Synths typically do not go in the FX bins. Regardless TH2 will need a dedicated MIDI track to handle routing data from the controller to the plug-in.

Synth is not in the bin, it's on the track.

Insert Soft Synth > VST2> Lounge Lizard EP-3 ('Simple Instrument Track' box checked)
FX Bin -Audio FX> VST2> TH2 Producer
VST2 (menu)> Enable Midi Input
Preferences> Wah Pedal = CC2 (Breath Controller)Add Wah (Crying)

No reaction from way to breath controler, but Lounge lizard plays. Wouldn't the fx in the bin use the same midi track that is playing the Lizard, as they are both on the same track?

Created folder > added midi trac and Instrument track to this.
Checked Midi Input> set to Quad Capture - omni (Breath controller is plugged into the)
Checked Midi out, only Quad capture, Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth, Lounge Lizard and Drum maps show. No way to select TH2

So my Wind Controller as a mod wheel that sends data without me have to blow and trigger 3 sets of of data. It assignable to just a few things, and setting these was designed by a three armed Japanese guy. So I assigned this to CC74. When I try to use ACT with this on various plug ins nothing happens (despite midi being registered as received). When I use a Midi learn function built into Lounge Lizard, controller74 does the job. Set Wah to CC74 and again nothing.

So is it Plug in FX that are not responding or just TH2. I had a look through various other plug in VSTs FX, but I can't see any othere with a assignable midi function that doesn't use ACT (which does not seem to work on anything with this controller data)

Any suggestions for VST effects with a Midi Learn

Tested it before posting. I did not use ACT, do not have ACT setup for anything because there is no control surface setup on this PC. The process without a control surface and ACT is:
  • Add a synth to a new project.
  • Add TH2 to the synth FX bin and add a Wah pedel to the signal path in TH2
  • In the standard VST header on top of the TH2 UI, select "Enable MIDI Input" from the VST2 drop down (this should add TH2 to the synth rack)
  • Add a MIDI track, set the input to the source of the CC data, TH2 should be available as an output target
  • Open Preferences > MIDI Bindings in the TH2 UI and click on the "Wah pedal" learn button
  • Send CC data.

The CC data should show in the MIDI track. The CC events should cause the MIDI Bindings Wah pedel to learn the correct values and the Wah pedal should move. With slight changes in where the MIDI learn feature is located on the plug-in, all plug-ins with MIDI learn can work this way.
