Have you tried it with another plugin?  Can you control anything else with the breath controller?

The standard number for a breath controller is CC2,  try adding an automation lane to any instrument using CC2 and see if you're actually getting data..

Thanks Scook for taking the time to do that. SO this looks the same as I tried in 4 posts above. Thanks for clarifying that both the synth and the Fx need their own midi track. I wonder why I wasn't seeing the TH2 as a midi option for routing to. I'll have a look in the morning to see if I can make sense of it.

Thanks again.

Yeah, but as ACT doesn't seem to be working on anything I tried in the FX bin, nor the synth that was responding to CC2 when set through midi learn, I couldn't set another FX to receive CC2. I questioned above  "Any suggestions for VST effects with a Midi Learn" so I could see if it was routing or the Plug in at issue. Seems from Scook's post I still have another step to conquer on the routing first.

Figuring why ACT is not working is a mission for another day, but I don't have any knobs or sliders here, just a mod wheel and pitchbend and breath controller.

This is my situation except my controller is a very basic keyboard controller. One reason I never bothered with ACT. Controlling the TH2 Wah with MIDI is possible, given the correct routing.

I have a Trigger finger drum pad in the UK that I keep meaning to sell, and had that working with ACT, so I have some faith in ACT, and this was when it was first launched. Having started down this treacherous road in 93' with the Novation BassStation Keyboard (then Cakewalk LE on Windows 9.11) I have since come to the conclusion the keyboards and me do not mix, and am now happily keyboard free. Just my WX5 Midi Sax and Korg Nanopad2 drums. I may invest in a NanKontrol2 at somepoint to return to some knobs and faders.

I love breath controller on filters on monosyths and mono instruments. I have a soft spot for rhodes and being able to add some further expression through wah, filter etc would really help  add some life.

So despite spending 90 mins running around playing football, my insomnia this week continues. So fuzzy headed I opened Sonar and checking that set up I had earlier but was not showing the TH2 for the additional midi track, it had appeared. No responce from the wah though. S I decided to run through from scratch, following your steps. Bang, it works, thanks scook, very grateful

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I kind of got a little confused reading that thread what with the whole scook/Scoot thing

I'd happily change my name, started a thread a few years ago requesting it. Scoot was a nickname from 17 years ago, and it's taken years to get my friends to stop using it. Also kind of connects me with an Ex from back 10 years ago. Unfortunately the forum can't do this.

To try to avoid confusion I had an avatar, but I updated it 2 weeks ago, it shows on my profile page, but keeps appearing and disappearing, so II don't know if you can see it or not.

Ultimately I think the fact that your name is capitalized is good enough to distinguish the two. I'm just easily confused...

Here is another way to control an effect in TH2. Using the Crying Wah as the example:
  • Open the TH2 UI and add the Crying Wah
  • Drag and drop the Crying Wah by it's label to one of the smart controls at the bottom of the TH2 UI.
  • Select filter from the popup context menu. This binds the smart control to the Wah filter.
  • Add an automation lane for the TH2 smart control in the track containing TH2
  • Right-click on the automation lane fader, selecting Remote Control and make the appropriate CC assignment.
Now the automation lane can be written directly using the controller.
