Can we do a quick bass roundup...   We've got Scarbee, Manytone, the sounds in Dim Pro ( of which I wish there were a zillion more. ) Maybe not a zillion..

Anybody using Trillian?  Any good?  What do you like about it...

What/who else?   I'm looking for killer bass...  Like, "wanted for questioning," bass!  Has to be bass guitar, not a synth that's good on bass ie "massive."

Cheers...

I hear that Spectrasonics Trillion is supposed to be the best around but I've never tried it.

Spectrasonics Trillion is THE bass VI that all other should be judged by. Absolutely the best sound around.

Unfortunately it is SO large that a demo is not available but there are several videos available on YouTube and at Spectrasonics website that should give you a real good idea of its potential.

Kind regards,
Rick

Also... http://www.orangetreesamples.com/jaco

OTS stuff is top notch, if you have Kontakt full. Word has it he's also working on a rick bass library... Can't wait for that...

Lyrical Distortion has some decent basses for real cheap and multi-format... http://www.lyricaldistortion.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3_5

AcousticSamples has some decent basses as well... used to be Kontakt, now UVI engine only... so bring your iLok...

Adding some more here...

There's Chris Hein Bass library, which is Kontakt-based, but doesn't require Kontakt full...

Also, Vir2 BASiS is also a Kontakt player library (Kontakt full not required)...

Hi..   It says on the website they are compatible with SFZ...   Have you loaded these into Dim Pro, or Rapture ( full version ), Do they work alright?

Thanks...   Lovely website btw

Another +1 for Orange Tree. Right up there with the NI Scarbee bases.

The Lyrical Distortion stuff is great for the price. I use them with Kontakt I have not tried the SFZ versions in Dim Pro.

Yellowtools Majestic is a bit long in the tooth but if you don't have Kontakt you get a decent range of sounds for 99 Euros.

No I haven't loaded them into DimPro or similar... You could email Aaron if you have any questions. He's always been responsive when I've contacted him in the past.

Keep in mind, the total size of those sets is 1GB, 1.5GB, etc., so depending on number of articulations in each SFZ of the set you'll be eating a lot of memory if you're not using a streaming SFZ player/sampler. Of course, you don't get the nifty scripted articulation mappings like you do with Kontakt either, so you might end up doing some of your own mappings, etc., depending on the sampler engine you import the SFZs into, and your patience for such things... For "serious" high end insturment libraries like OTS, Kontakt is the way to go, IMO...

Some more decent bass libraries I forgot to mention...

Since it was mentioned--yup, I am indeed working on another bass library right now, a Rickenbacker 4003. Because a lot of times you'll need something that sounds realistic when playing repetitive notes, I've sampled the library with 32x round-robin. That means that you can play one note 32 times before it will repeat the original sample in the round-robin cycle. There are a bunch of other features that provide realistic legato, contextual release samples, and much more.
