Keep in mind, the total size of those sets is 1GB, 1.5GB, etc., so depending on number of articulations in each SFZ of the set you'll be eating a lot of memory if you're not using a streaming SFZ player/sampler. Of course, you don't get the nifty scripted articulation mappings like you do with Kontakt either, so you might end up doing some of your own mappings, etc., depending on the sampler engine you import the SFZs into, and your patience for such things... For "serious" high end insturment libraries like OTS, Kontakt is the way to go, IMO.

The plot thickens... Ah..  The scripting controls the articulations.  hmmm, that does seem quite important.  I always wondered  --> "kontakt scripting = purpose please."
Eating ram with streaming sfz..  also doesn't sound so hot.

Trilian is big and it's much more than a bass guitar synth. It's got tonnes of other basses. Reading this http://www.spectrasonics.net/products/trilian.php gives a sense of it's enormity - typical Spectrasonics. What do you like it about it? Err... everything! Overkill though if you just want a bass guitar.

Best deal they did was Trilogy with upgrade to Trilian. Two great packages in one for less than Trilian sells for now.

Trilogy is smaller and less CPU intensive so is good for the ideas stage. I don't see it for sale secondhand that often and Spectrasonics have a transfer policy that's so slow it came a distant third behind the tortoise and the hare.

The classic that comes with Kontakt sounds really goood and is used by many.

I still have my Broomstick bass - takes us back to a simpler time when there was less choice. http://www.bornemark.se/bb/index.htm

.
Scripts control how the sample is played. Its no longer just a case of hit the key and the sample plays. All sorts of other parameters can be controled by the script making the instrument more versatile and expressive.

(they get the price wrong at the bottom of the screen (right on some of the basses, but not consistant, when you add to check out it goes to the correct $10)

I'm after SFZs does this mean the samples are only available for download in 3 formats, none of which are SFZs?

If I recall correctly the SFZ, Independence and Kontakt formats are all in the Multi

All three formant use WAV files, so there is only one set of those, but there will be a small SFZ, NKI and what ever Independence uses files to map the samples in the relevent software.

Cheers Thanks, so I get the lot in all

It's been ages since I programmed an SFZ file, wasn't sure if it came with the script file. I think I used Excell to remove the repatative nature and risks of errors

After you've paid you get the option of what you want to downloads, and get a number of attempts. SO I guess if you like on Dimension pro, and upgrade to Kontact later, you can download the alternative format. Seeems cool to me, though it may be standard nowadays.

The PDF downlaod confirms your advice

Greg's Rickenbacker is going to be a hit, I think. 32x round-robin? Nobody's done that before. Where sampled basses usually fall down is on slides, and Greg's the king of slides. Even without hearing it, it's already on my wishlist.

Trillian.

The "Acoustic Upright" is simply the most realistic I've certainly heard (if you're into acoustic realism). The "Electric Fretless" is one I use and abuse all the time. There's a learning curve involved in familiarizing yourself with the interface and the gazillion features available, but I do consider it an investment when taking into account the end results.

Note: Since purchasing Trillian, I simply don't feel the need to look elsewhere.

So you've got em?  Are you using Kontakt?   Can you load a few sounds in Dim Pro, and please report on the findings?  I'd like some unbiased thoughts...

 :-)

Are the basses as dirty, aggravating and cool as they look in the photos?  ( one would sure hope )

:p

Cheers mate...
