Jeff has described SDRR very well.  It's a very deep and versatile tool ... I haven't come close to exploring everything it can do, but everything I've tried has exceeded my high expectations.  It's a console emulator, it's a fuzzbox, it's a tube saturator, it's a signal crusher.  It does so much so well.  And, the GUI is fantastic!

Many lesser plugins have sold for a lot more money.  This is another home run, make that a grand slam, for Klanghelm (whose DC8C compressor is also very impressive).

Cheers,
Eddie

Oh dear, I just wrote on another post that I was not going to buy anymore software this year, but was going to have to make an exception for that product - I suppose two exceptions might be pushing it but ................

Another darkside review, but should not dampen inspiration to try the plug and purchase if it fits. The dev deserves our support by his distribition ethic. I use the registered compressor and it is fine.

SDRR, at least the freeware trial didn't give anything new or useful. Distortion, overdrive was too granular, synthetic.  Maybe missed subtle tweaking by way better audio minds than mine, but will pass this one for now. Elegant GUI.

The freeware IVGI plugin didn't really wow me, either.  But SDRR is an entirely different beast.  It goes WAY beyond IVGI.  And ... the price is insanely low for a tool of this caliber.  Put this next to your Saturns and Decapitators and see which one sounds better to you ... you might be surprised.
Cheers,
Eddie

Hey Eddie,

Good feedback. The dev is on hi ground with a moral distribution ethic. Only downside is that there is no demo of the full version to go with. You got to make an assessment off the free limited version.

Important to hear that the retail plug seems to deliver over and above the freebie.

Lots of folks over on KVR have likened it to Decapitator and said it was less extreme but more pleasant overall. I haven't heard any comparisons to Saturn yet, though.

I'm real dubious when it comes to saturators. They're just not that useful to me. Most of them just dull a mix when used gently, and when pushed hard can suck the life out of it. I like my transients and dynamics, thank you very much.

However, I do love the harmonic exciter in Ozone 4 (not the one in O5), which also does tube and tape saturation, and would love to find something as good that's light enough to use on individual tracks. Maybe this is it?

You don't have to run a whole mix through it. It can be used very effectively on just a stem like some narly guitars that might need a little more roughing up.Or just a track of course.

Or in the case of a piece of music I have just done with some virtual synths and some hardware synths. One of the virtual parts was a Korg Wavestation and the patch was perfect but it was just a little icy sounding or tiny bit cold and digital sounding in parts. So I just ran the SDRR just over the Wavestation synth and nothing else and just put it into tube mode and found  a setting which gave just that synth a nice depth and warmth that was not there previously. It just sat nicely in with the other things. Instead of it standing out too clearly it sat alongside everything else without touching its level even.

Where it does work in whole mixes is in Desk Mode and you select something like a Master Glue Buss 80's style. The Drive control determines how hard things are going to be working. You have control over the transients, softer or faster and also the low end and top end can be tweaked so no highs are lost. Like I said, a lot of control for a saturation type plugin. Allows you many options.

I bought this and DC8C 2 yesterday. So far Desk mode is my fav, but I haven't messed with it much yet. What does SDRR stand for anyway? Saturation, distortion, ?, ?.
