There's nothing wrong with playing it your way! That's a very good thing!
 
The players around here claimed to play one way but it's not what they are actually doing. What I'm finding out is they don't expect someone to be able to play it like the records. If you point out a mistake in the way they're playing ,say, the changes you(ME) becomes the bad guy.  When there's a G/B I don't play Bm or B7. Their response has been "it's sounds right to me". Then they go on a tangent about "We know music! We play the Chili Cookoff every year! I've been playing in these bars since the 70's!. We wouldn't have the following if we didn't know what we're doing!" What can I say after that? Cept' I'm done with the local bands around here. 
 
As far as my singing goes I had a hard time singing lead in one set. My voice gets hoarse. I was OK for a while but the more I sang the worse It got. So my answer is no to singing most of the gig.
