They omitted my favorite one-hit-wonder, Dexys Midnight Runners' "Not Now Eileen".  It was used in the wonderful movie "The Perks of Being a Wallflower".  You can see the scene here:

Lots of fun.

To be fair I think Dexy's Midnight Runners had a couple of other hits: notably Jackie Wilson Said and Geno.

Does a remake/cover qualify as a hit?

Really?

If being #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 qualifies as a hit then Grand Funk Railroad did it covering The Loco-Motion

Yes, if it charts properly.  in fact some of the biggest hits in music history were covers. I think the average person remembers marvin gaye's version of "heard it through the grape vine " more than original.  I don't think anyoen but the avid Prince fan knew 'Nothing Compares 2 U" before Sinead O'connor (another one hit wonder) made it a hit.

I would say that those aren't one hit wonders by any commonly accepted definition.

And I don't find anything particularly surprising that artists whose genre wasn't pop music/singles wouldn't regularly show up on the pop singles charts.

So the whole thing is a contrivance. Move along.

Drew..that site has tons of contrived "articles" like this but I doubt even they regard them as scientific in any way. They are meant to spur discussion and that is what itdid. How songs are charted now is very different anyway. I'm sure they know that they are compaing apples to oranges.
