I can think of several examples of well-adjusted but brilliant musical minds: Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, uh, mmm, help me out here...well, there's Zappa, of course. And Michael Jackson, nothing weird about him.

Technically they aren't "geniuses". We mediocre types simply whish to believe they are, in some way, tho.

Strangely, the small town I grew up in had several major league scientists living there. I knew 2 physicists and one hydro geologist. All 3 of these gentlemen were brilliant and one of them was recognized by the Nobel committee. They also shared an inability to be perceived as normal.

The one physicist was often seen taking long walks around town while having an intense conversation with himself. The other was well known to be a crank with a fondness for red wine at any time of day, particularly when using a pencil and pad to find black holes. The geologist was merely eccentric and completely useless with routine household tasks, like changing a light bulb.

All true. 3 "geniuses" that walked a fine line.

Is the drummer's middle name "Bread?"

Absolutely true that the word "genius" is bandied about much too freely. Even one of my idols...Ray Charles...is fairly suspect.

I feel 'genius' and the word 'hero' are so wrongly used today so much of the time. Makes me cringe at times. Probably because people can't think of the correct or more appropriate word to use in their statement. But they are usually used in a complimentary way at least.

I wouldn't call Baker a musical genius ... he didn't even come up with the inverted drum beat for "Sunshine" but he was influential and I do consider him an influence.

Baker also called himself a jazz drummer and not a rock drummer.  Again, Ginger was not a jazz drummer (he even did a couple of those drum battles that are just hard to watch).

This is available on Netflix streaming if anybody is interested. I just had a chance to watch last night. I was at a ripe rock age when bands like Cream hit the scene, and drumming styles like Ginger's were the rage. Still appreciated it when segments were shown in this documentary. But he does seem like a tough guy to get along with.  Lighten up Mr. Baker.  And he could use a financial consultant.

Is it on regular Netflix? I love Ginger Baker. The 2005 Cream reunion was excellent. He does seem like he would be hard to get along with, but his fights with Jack Bruce have been pretty entertaining.
