  • Naming Contest for Boz's new Delay plugin (p.3)

I haven't found a $300 delay plug-in worth $300 to me. Aside from the delays mentioned above, the Eventide H3000 Factory Native Plug-in carries a $349 retail price. I have seen it on "sale" for $200 and that is quite a bit for the plug-in.

I have played around with the Imperial Delay a little bit. The VST3 version appears to have a problem with mono tracks in X3 (which I just submitted to the developer). The VST2 version seems to work OK. It is a nice delay probably worth $59. I don't care for the Waves pricing strategy (at least they have a history of commanding high $$$ back in the day) or the continuous 50% off MeldaProduction approach. I prefer the ValhallaDSP approach or intro pricing like u-he does.

Of the two new delays I have played with, I much prefer the tritik UI. The Imperial Delay with it fixed UI and animation is not visually appealing. I am not sure Imperial Delay is worth 5x the tkdelay much less the almost 10x when both go retail.

I wish I could get tkdelay installed, but the self-initialization fails when SONAR tries to scan it.

Speaking of the Eventide, have you seen this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCd0fIrkxqQ

Bear in mind that the video was created by Brandon Drury, who is working in partnership with Boz, a fact not mentioned in the video. Still, it does show off a cool feature of the delay, and it's not even the coolest feature.

tkdelay does not run on XP. If you are testing on a newer OS, I have found the dev pretty responsive.

Yeah, I noticed the Eventide killer video but have yet to watch it. I think it was mentioned in the KVR 299 thread

Hi there!
I'm the tkDelay dev.

thanks clint & scook for mentioning tkDelay !

@bitflipper : I wish you could test it too! :)
as scook said it won't work on XP. Otherwise do you have a warning message or something when the scan fails?
When tkDelay's beta do not show up on windows, then most of the time installing the following package from microsoft fixes it :

hum. I can't post urls cause I don't have 5 posts on the forum, but just search for : "Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4"
when you click the download button, microsoft will propose you 3 files to download, choose vcredist_x64.exe if you have a windows 64bit, or the 32 one if your windows is 32bits

Please let me know how it goes directly at support [at] tritik.com
(If there's another cause to the issue I'd like to find out what it is so that I can fix it for the next release)

oh, about the pricing... yep, we definitely don't all have the same strategy here :)
no, really the thing is simply that it's the first tritik's plugin, so the 'marketing goal' is not the same, and I'm also surely pretty bad at marketing haha
but I just wanted to say please don't make any early judgement on tkDelay just based on its low price. Hope you'll find the way/time to install and use it.
mail me at support[at]tritik if something does not work, and I'll assist you.

Thanks for stopping by, Charles. Do you happen to know why it doesn't work on XP?

hi. yes, basically It's just some builds settings, stuff like that. Nothing that I can't overcome to be honest.
on kvr there's other user(s) asking for xp support too. I would not have thought there were still so many xp users. is there many xp users around here?
if there's a real demand I may make it work on xp. still thinking about it.

You'd be surprised how many XP-based DAWs there are in the world. Just as there are still many millions of XP machines on office desks all over the world. When you have a rig that works, you need a compelling reason to toss it out and start over. Not everybody cares about RAM limitations - believe it or not, some people still just record real musicians playing real instruments. Windows 7 will only be an option for another month, and everybody hates Windows 8.

I'll admit, though, that I am in the process of building a 64-bit DAW so that I can use all of my sample libraries. But the XP machine will continue to be used for months to come while I shift gears. So if you need somebody to beta an XP-compatible version, I'll happily volunteer.

The Maillard Reaction
My MOTU 896HD has lower latency with the XP x86 drivers with my back up DAW than it has with the Win7 x64 drivers I use as my primary DAW. I could have been happy... but nooooooooo I wanted to use some stuff that only works on Win 7 or newer.

Recording real musicians playing real music is not the only way to keep an XP machine going. There is another approach which is what I do. I am still running a 32 bit XP machine and very well happily might I add.  get to use all my fave VST's and things. There is just so much out there still in 32 bit form only. And you dont have to suffer bridging issues either.

I produce a lot of music that is synth based but once you get the synthesisers outside the computer and in your room everything changes. No large amounts of RAM required now because all that is being handled by hardware. And to be honest I think in many ways it still handles this job much better.  Also if you use a digital mixer which is what I also do you can send all manner of audio buses or individual signals over to that for extra processing and mixing etc.  This is another way to take the load off your computer setup.

Even on the largest mixes that I am doing my main computer CPU is still only hitting 60 to 70% max. So it never falls over or crashes, it just keeps on working like a dream. I also have a UAD card installed. That really helps big-time. Can't recommend it highly enough. That can cover about 70% of the mix requirements alone before the computer CPU is even approached.

I don't know how large the customer pool is for a new XP compatible plug-in. However, if all it takes are some changes to the compile scripts, it would seem like an easy way to expand the potential customer pool for a start up company.
