Wow.... I'm a fool for a steel guitar.... kinda wish I had learned how to play one.... but that's another story....I'm just glad that you did.

This is a gorgeous song.  If you added vocals the steel would have to take a back seat to the vocals so I would tend to side on leaving it like it is.

I had the opportunity to spend a weekend playing, jamming and talking with Jimmy Crawford back in the day. He used to be a part of the upper echelon of steel players in Nashville at the time he came to jam on a gig with us. He was also in the Nashville Bar Association.... talk about some hot steel players..... wow....

Yeah.... on the third straight listen. This is the kind of steel playing I love, but unfortunately, in Nashville these days, with rare exceptions, this is not the steel playing you tend to hear on the hits. Those days of the really great country music  are gone except for a few real country players who keep the old music alive.

This could definitely have a home in the right film as underscore.   The guy sets in the honky tonk bar and remembers the girl and when love was good...... and this plays in the background as he reminisces.

Love it!

Gary, you have come up with my ideal chillin' song, and I just caught myself reaching for a cold beer when I suddenly remembered I was at work.....!           I so totally agree with the others that noted that you could have some excellent vocals here on this number - it's practically oozing lyrics at me as I listen.   This is such a cool, smooth piece of work - great job!    ~ John

Guitarhacker: Hi Herb. Thanks very much for listening and for the very kind comments. Yea, Jimmy Crawford was one of the greats. I've heard he was a very funny guy, too.

There are still plenty of hot steel players in Nashville but, you're right, you don't hear them too much on the current country charts. Oddly enough, bands/singers that actually play real country music are pretty much considered novelty acts these days. I guess it's up to you to continue to write/sing real country tunes

Thanks again!

ha! Drinking at work is not only encouraged but, at a lot of jobs I've had, absolutely necessary

I'm not a lyricist or singer so I can't help with the vocal suggestions but I sure do appreciate your taking the time to listen and leave a comment. Thanks for the kind words.
