HMMMM I thought we could mark a post as spam before, unless it was being used too much and they tightened up.
 
ANyway I promise not to tag a post with spam just because it p****s me off,
 
but if your selling indian love potions, then all bets are off.
 
Maybe a forum host/ess can chime in on this? 

There was an incident in the sonar forum where someone came in with low post count and started ranting on sonar because it didn't work the way he wanted it to work.  3 people flagged him as spam and he was banned.
 
it was not spam.  he might should have been banned for his abusive post, but not because he was spamming.  several people replied and tried to get him to calm down and talk about the problem, but before he could respond he was automatically banned.
 
so we're changing the way that works and increasing the "reasons" for flagging a post to fit into categories which align with the new CoC.

So we still can report abuse etc then?

Actually it was me that approved the "spam" tag..    I thought it would be quite ironic for someone to create a post and tag it themselves as spam.. 
 
It also makes it easier for me to root out the idiots that would tag their own posts as spam..

Seriously though,  it does have correct use, ie, if you start a thread complaining about the level of spam in (say) the deals forum, you can now add a relevant tag.
