Posting a cover of Bad Company's Silver Blue and Gold for mixing critique.   Spent a lot of time trying to get away from the overly brittle sound of some of my previous mixes.   Drums are Superior Drummer, Piano is NI Vienna Pop Piano, Guitars are all Podfarm 2.5 Amp Sims, Mandolin is mic'ed, Bass is fretless, playing through an LA-610 Signature Pre-amp, by the singer of this cover version of SBG.  Pretty good singer, see if you can guess who it is;)

Look forward to opinions.   Hope you enjoy.

I'm getting it keyed up, like a bit rate issue. Hopefully that's just me :-) It sounds pretty good, just a little high/fast.

this is a fantastic opus. singer has more of a pure voice than Paul Rogers too.  A+

Great job on the cover.  I'll bet this singer could do justice to Journey if he has the range.

:-) Guilty as charged. I think the fretless bass makes the tune though :-)

Sounds really good.

Since the vox sounds so much like Steve Perry rather than Paul Rodgers  I would have listed it as a Perry Company cover.

I like this.

It is also the favorite song by BC of my wife.  we saw them on the tube the other night..... cranked up the sound system on the TV...with subs.....

Robbie sings this well. Nice job on the instrumentation..... rather faithful to the original..... I might actually like this version better though......

Vicente - Thanks for the listen.   You called it, Robby is the singer and bass player.

Daren - Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.   Wow, PR is one of my favorite singers, and I think Robby's, he should be thrilled with that compliment;)

Lynn - Thank you.  Funny you mentioned Journey, I never heard that quality in the vocals until you mentioned it.  Now I can't not hear a little SP in it.

TheBand19 - The bass certainly contributed to the song but I think stating that the bass "made the song" is going out on a limb a bit  I would give you this, the vocals made the song...

Ed - Thanks, I knew eventually I would get one out that sounded good to you;)  This forum has been invaluable for learning the art of mixing.   The playing is much easier, and more fun than the mixing,  I have to admit.

Herb  -  Thanks for the listen, I tried to play this a little more laid back than the 1975 BC version.   I saw BC do this live and they did it a little more like this version than their original recording.   I was surprised to read that BC never released Silver Blue and Gold as a single, even though it is one of their more popular songs.

It's actually all pretty good, your drums, our keys :-) your guitars? I say "give me gold and silver, you can keep the blue..."
