Where can I find a complete soundfont of the Roland D50, with all the factory presets? The only thing I have is a soundfont called "D50 Various Sounds", and it seems like there's only a few sounds on that one. If anyone has anything of that sort, could they please post it on the forum in an attachment? If that doesn't work, can someone at least tell me where to look?

I don't think there is one, however there is this

Expansion number two is all D50 factory sounds. I bought them for my Kronos and they're very well done. 15 bucks is the cheapest D50 you'll find, I think.

Thanks for the heads up, just bought SAM 05 and PRE 02.
They sound great!
Having an 80's flashback right now...

Is there perhaps a free soundfont out there?

Again, I'm pretty sure there isn't. I could be proven wrong but I did google this at one point. In addition, the guy who made these is the owner of Korgforums.com and plays a Kronos. The Kronos reads soundfonts and there is a lot of free sharing on that site. I doubt he would have gone through the laborious sampling and programming of his D50 if there were a free soundfont.

15 bucks isn't so bad, I'd say, and the sounds are really well done. He also does JD800 sounds by the way.

Unless you find a collection made by a private individual (and not for sale) then you won't find any. (Unless you own a Roland V-Synth and get the D-50 exp. for it.)

Roland and/or Eric Persing actually (now Spectrasonics) who actually programmed the original D50 patches is usually quick to shutdown any commercial releases of D50 patches due to copyright infringement.

I don't Roland or Eric Persing would have a very good case unless the actual D50 or Roland trademark was used. You can't copyright an actual sound. The collection I pointed to is authentic and very well done.

The D50 and D550 (rack version of D50) both use PCM Samples for the basis of the synth.

Eric and Roland have shut down several vendors trying to sell D50 sampled patches.

You can find various soundfonts of the D50 but generally they are not considered legal by Roland - use at your own risk.  This is also why it is becoming harder and harder to find D50 sample packs or soundfonts.

I wanted D50 sounds and many of the soundfonts I did find really did not do the sounds justice as the D50 has layers, samples and synth - soundfonts just couldn't live up to the actual synth or the sample I found was only sampled in C# and had no range across the keyboard.

I resorted to buying a Roland D550 rack module.  Now I have all the D50 sounds, only way I could get um.

The reason why I jumped on it was to get it before Eric gets it shut down, he's been very successful at that...

The D-50 is a sample based synth.  They own the copyright.  Whether or not someone is infringing the trademark is not relevant.  Any sample product which uses the D-50's internal samples infringes on copyright, and Roland/Persing are well within their rights to issue takedowns and lawsuits.  That's all there is to it.
