When I record there is  a constant background noise and I can't get rid of or figure out what it is. It's keep me from uploading any music because it destroys my recordings. Does anyone know what is causing this sound? Thanks for any guidance!

Is it your foot tapping?

May be motorboating in your interface's preamp. Does it persist with the input volume controls all the way down?

Thanks for the help Dave! I hear it when I turn up the sens knobs on my Edirol FA 66. The sound is gone with them turned down

There's an old cakewalk thread called 'can't stop the noise FA-66 SOLVED' on google but it won't come up unfortunately. I get rid of noise from interface to computer with those cheap ground loop isolator things. Works a treat but there are many google threads on noise and it's a question of elimination. The ground loop isolator is a last resort and it could be a simple fix.

Thanks Handsomer Than Me! It's quite irritating and prevents me from finishing a lot of tunes

When did it start? What's the signal chain in front of the 66? How does the 66 interface with the PC?

Like Tom's thinking, I'd next look at what's in front of the interface. Because the noise's volume goes up and down with the input gain control, that suggests the possibility that the interface might not be at fault. The FA-66 has two inputs, right? Do both of them do the exact same thing?
