Does anyone know how to back up a custom preset made in Abbey Road drums? You can make your own mixes based on the given presets and I had several that were just perfect and I lost them when I was forced to reinstall from scratch.

One solution I have been using is a screen shot.  I use this for console view a lot. 
 
If you have dropbox installed screenshots are stored automaticly in a screenshot folder. My DAW is not on the internet but drop box resides locally. When you go on line it will update in both directions. I also copy the dropbox folder to a DAT drive and date it. I keep all my download drivers , plug ins, lyrics and anything I don't want to loose in there. If I had the bandwidth I'd keep my audio in there too. 
 
Most VST plug ins have there own folder in your Programs folder. I would think the pre sets are stored there and there might be a way of copy and paste. Anyone? 
 
Another option would be to see if you can directs the pre set folder storage to a DATA drive. 
This topic is of interest to me as I just ordered a whole new MOBO and Processor and will be in the same pickle with Session drummer once again. I also have a few pre sets with Sontonus and Lexicon efxs. So I have screen shots of those already. 

You can save the presets within the specific VST's dialog or you can use the SONAR dialog.
 
You can try using the SONAR VST save preset dialog. When you do this you can select a folder to save .fxp or .fxb files to and then make a backups of those presets. Easy. Breezy.

If you use the VSTs internal save dialog you'll have to look for some info about where the VST stores it's presets. each one is different and many have a way to select a folder as a preference. With Kontakt it is available via the "options" tab. Once you find the presets you can copy them and back them up.
 
 

In AR drums the presets are available from a drop down so there's no way to specify where they get stored. I've searched my system using one of the default preset names in the hope of finding the location but nothing showed up, they might go by different names behind the scenes.
 
I also tried pulling a song from backup, hoping that the presets were somehow stored with that instance of the VST but no joy, I just got the defaults. I searched the manual, which tells you how to create presets but not where they're stored. Then I found this on another forum:

All presets in Drummer series are stored in NKA text files which should be located in:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\<whatever> Drummer\Data\

On Windows Vista/7/8, just press Win+R and type %LOCALAPPDATA% then Enter, and you should see Drummer folder(s) with your stored presets there.

Edit: some libraries seem to store this in your Documents folder, so:

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\<library name>\Data\

However, I couldn't find them in either location :) I'm OK about losing them this time but I don't want to go through it all again. So - I'm still no wiser, let me know if you find any useful info.

In the future you may find using the SONAR level preset saving feature a great convenience as it asks you each time where you want to save it.
 
For example; You can save a project specific preset in the actual project folder.
 
For example; You can set up an often used preset in a folder that you name just for Abbey Road.

Mike - where is that strip of controls found? The controls shown in your link.

It is in the top bar of the VST dialog window. It is not part of the VST, but part of the host, which in my case is SONAR.
 
The button that says "Vst" on it, that is pointed out with the red "E", is the link to the drop down dialog that allows you to save or load presets.
 
That is how it works with Abbey Road drums in Kontakt. Are you using Kontakt or Kontakt Player? I wonder if Kontakt Player may be hosted differently?

I see that for FX that go in the track bin but AR drums are loaded into Kontakt v5.3.1 and I see no such strip anywhere in Kontakt. The closest thing I can see in Kontakt is the option to Add saved files to database - found Under Options > Database.
 
Is that what you were referring to? Load/Import deals with loading plugs not presets.

Would I be saving a preset as one of those entries in the list (Kt aux (3) or whatever)?
