If you want to do it within Kontakt try using the the old floppy disk "Save Files" icon.
 
IIRC it will direct the save to the place you have selected in the gear shaped icon "Options".
 
 
 
 
I use the SONAR save preset function as it's so flexible and you are reminded each time where your presets are.

OK, how did you get that Outputs window to appear :)
 
Would I be saving a preset as one of those entries in the list (Kt aux (3) or whatever)?
 
I don't get it.




 
That's a screen shot I linked to... I was just looking for an example of the VST button so you could see it.
 
To answer your question, use the "Output" tab in Kontakt.

It occurs to me that you may be using multiple outputs to multiple SONAR tracks. If that is the case you may want to learn about and use SONAR's Save Track Template feature. It is perfect for multi put Kontakt layouts and it will also save the VST settings as a preset.
