I picked this up yesterday and used it on a drum mix. Wicked good on kick/snare/OH. I loved the way it brought out the thump in the kick. I am really looking forward to putting this plug through its paces on other source material.

Eddie, I read the following about NLS: "They are saturation plugins really, nothing new. They add "glue" to your mix. In other words really slight compression and harmonics that all tracks can have in common."
Would this mean that NLS indeed functions as a kind of compressor?

Only to a very limited degree ... to achieve what's normally called compression, you'd need a separate plugin.  If you're unfamiliar with compressors in general, I suggest taking advantage of the wealth of info available from sites or videos that explain the basics.  To get a feel for how they affect the sound, the Sonitus compressor in Sonar is great to experiment with, having straightforward controls and a neat little graph showing what's happening.  Good luck and have fun ... and as always, feel free to ask questions of the friendly folks here.

Cheers,
Eddie

Thanks, Eddie, for this prompt and clear response. I'll also start experimenting with Klanghelm DC1A and the Plug&Mix bundle I bought.
Meanwhile, I have to say I love this learning curve, because of guys like you helping me out.
Waited too many years before starting this journey, but at 52 now I'm loving every part of it.
As for the EMI TG12345, I guess I'd better wait for a sale price on the Abbey Road bundle that would include this plug-in, together with J37, REDD, RS56 and The King’s Microphones, as I read in the UAD-forum that you consider NLS, Scheps 73 and the Abbey Road Bundle to be good Waves plug-ins. Got NLS and Scheps already thanks to your recommendation.

I do like those Waves plugs, particularly the Abbey Road collection.  But tastes differ, so be sure to demo the plugins that interest you before buying, to make sure they help you achieve the sound you're after.

When buying Waves, the best deals are usually when they offer a voucher in combination with sale prices, as they just did with those plugs you bought.  I bought the Abbey Road single plugins this way instead of the bundle and saved a ton of money.  But keep your eyes open for deals, which can come anytime -- Black Friday is a great time to shop!

Cheers,
Eddie
